Hi , a drawing of Sigurd x Iori ship (kissing) please
akjshf they didn't end up fully kissing because i couldn't figure out how to do their hair and clothes that close together, but they are getting awfully close ...
i like to imagine this is them after sigurd's wife starts talking about divorce because sigurd's job has been leading to a lot of tension for them and well ... having been divorced himself, iori knows what a soon-to-be divorcee needs most is a good rebound!
Wow, there was a lot of Sigurd love in my inbox! Thank you all for the asks. I hope you enjoy. I'm compiling all of these together since they were submitted somewhat closely.
Headcanons include: Sleeping, Driving, Bathing/Showering, Hugging, Sex, Wardrobe, Nickname, or Soft Spot. I also talk a lot about his wife for some of these ... wife guy ... to me
Also warning for some talk about erectile dysfunction
3. Sleeping
When he’s away for work, he always struggles to sleep more in the absence of his wife. After being married, he’s definitely treasured that ideal of waking up in the same bed every morning, going to sleep in each other’s arms every night. Sigurd has grown too accustomed to holding his wife as he falls asleep, so when he’s away he’ll often need good sleeping arrangements with pillows to hug instead. It’s still not the same, naturally, but it does relieve some of his heartache from being far.
Aside from that, he does try to keep a consistent sleep schedule for himself but also for his wife. With his job it’s not always possible to come home at a reasonable hour, but he will try his best to be consistent. He always worries that he’ll wake her/disturb her sleep if he comes home late from work and goes into bed, so in those situations he may spend the night in a guest/spare room out of guilt.
4. Driving
While he certainly isn’t driving for himself all the time (or even most the time), living in England means he’s quite good at navigating inclement weather. The worst trait he has is being a very aggressive driver. With all his stresses and time constraints, he has a tendency to speed, tailgate, or cut people off. Really it’s for his own safety that he’s not the one driving around most of the time, otherwise someone might just rear end him on purpose or stop really fast to brake check him. It’s still annoying for whoever does drive him because he’ll still get road rage from the passenger seat and it becomes a problem.
5. Bathing/Showering
Sigurd almost always showers rather than bathes. He’ll usually shower every other day to give himself more time with work on days he doesn’t shower. On his days off, he’ll take some time to shower or bathe with his wife. One of his favorite things about his days off is being able to help her wash her hair and then returning to their room to rest together. He’s not too picky about soaps so long as the smell is something he and his wife enjoy. He’ll try to put on lotion after showers, but his stress often pressures him to return to other tasks so he can get to sleep at a reasonable hour.
6. Hugging
Sigurd is, understandably, a withholding man. He’ll only willingly hug people he’s very close to, and they can often feel knotted tension in his arms and shoulders when he holds them. If anyone he’s not very familiar with tries to hug him, he’ll go stiff as a board and lean forward to prevent having too much contact close to the body. With his wife, family, and close friends, it’s a very different story. He’ll rarely hug his wife without also kissing her on the cheek or lips, and he always hugs those close to them in a quick but tight grasp.
8. Sex
(Because I’m interested in him being married, this is going to be somewhat related to his sex life with his wife.) Sigurd is always eager to please his partner though he is somewhat resistant to experimentation. Most of all, Sigurd loathes oral sex whether it’s giving or receiving. It somehow manages to feel intrusive and restrictive in a way that instantly brings him out of the mood. He would much rather be up close to his partner kissing their face, neck, or chest and being able to speak praises as he does.
For all the sexless Englishman jokes about his aversion to oral sex, he is/was always a very attentive lover to his wife. The main issue is that, within recent years, his job has stressed him out so much he’s developed erectile dysfunction. The negative impact it has on his marriage would probably be enough for him to try working through his oral sex aversion if just to keep his wife satisfied with intimacy, though she certainly still feels his tension he carries and misses being able to touch her husband back. It makes him feel a bit ashamed, but the main thing to get him up as of late is adrenaline from being on the front lines. He tries to carry the energy back to his wife, and they’d both be grateful for the fix, however temporary it might be.
11. Wardrobe
Given his position, his work clothes are all nicely tailored. He primarily wears British style suits, so it gives him a fairly attractive silhouette, particularly with some tapering around the waist. Even when he’s at home, he’ll wear matching pajama sets so he always seems to be put together. Most of his clothes are also made of quality fabric, typically wool (including tweed) or cotton. In addition to clothes, he also has a few accessories including a wide selection of ties and a smaller collection of brooches.
13. Nickname
He and his wife definitely have cute pet/nicknames for one another, but he would never share this in public. Sigurd is very much concerned with appearances, so he limits these names to private/home. It’s not necessarily that he’s ashamed of them, but he’s quite traditional. Pet names are a private thing of love. If brought into public, they not only lose their significance but they begin to run the risk of being unserious and overly casual.
…Maybe when he was younger his parents called him Fred or Freddie/Freddy but he felt he outgrew this by the time he was a preteen.
17. Soft Spot
Aside from the basic response of “his wife” I think a more general soft spot for Sigurd is children and C3. He cares a lot about his role at work, and part of his role is protecting the future by upholding certain work-related interests. Especially regarding children, I do see him as a family man or someone who is very eager to one day have a family (I can’t remember if he has kids or not). Because of this, he’s very concerned with children being treated well, even if his own strictness and desire for a particular future puts some strain on them. It’s not always the typical soft spot where he’ll begin to act very gently, but it’s the sort of thing that’s easily brought up in order to sway his opinions and actions a certain way.
And Sigurd is still the embodiment of why C3's system creates people like Touma. Like he is more willing to believe a dead person did this spell rather than considering that a non-elite magician could do it, even in a place where magicians have been on the front lines of their fight with Tsubaki for the past 20 years
Huh! That's interesting. Normally Sigurd talks using these kinds of speech bubbles, to indicate he's speaking English
And just to make sure, I reread every chapter he's appeared in so far... It's consistent. He always uses these long speech bubbles (I'm curious how they'll adapt this for western release)
But when he shouts at Nicco...
He uses this kind, indicating he's speaking Japanese. Even though... Sigurd doesn't KNOW Japanese.
This could mean a few things:
Option A) It was an oversight in the heat of the moment, since the tension is quite high during this part of the story
Option B) He was lying lol. This is possible, since Capp and Nicco don't use the English bubbles when speaking to Sigurd, while Shuuhei DOES. It would be weird if they were speaking Japanese and he was replying in English though, so... idk?
Option C) Strike doesn't have appropriate shouty bubbles for his English text on hand
Option D) ?????? Profit! Who knows. Maybe the strangeness with Magician bodies that requires them to be handled carefully after death is that their spirits can possess you? Credit for this theory btw goes to the ever lovely @hisakata-resutomoshibi I just love giving her more fodder lel
Also isn't Sigurd's haircolor very close to the one sensei used to illustrated Creator on volume 18? It's probably nothing, but I thought it was interesting enough to point out.
So Sigurd and Miyako are both shown to possess jewelry they use for healing spells, and I have to wonder if the jewelry weren’t items that belonged to the Count before his death, and later were passed on to his students/disciples.
Logically, it would make sense for the Tsukimitsu family to be one of the three families that were descended directly from those disciples, and I don’t just mean because of Sigurd’s apparent dislike of them or their importance.
Sigurd’s family name, as well as the magic ring he possesses, are both references to Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen, a German operatic cycle that’s loosely based off the Nibelungenlied (translated as “Song of the Nibelungs). Why the opera and not the original epic?
You’ll see :3c
NOW, how it relates to the Tsukimitsu.
Miyako, who possesses the earring and used it to save Tooru’s life, calls her spell “Valkyria Brünhilde”
Brünhilde is an alternate spelling of Brynhildr, who, in the story, is Siegfried’s lover (an old Germanic spelling of Sigurd, which is old Norse). Valkyries were the ones who chose who would and wouldn’t qualify to be taken to Valhalla upon death, and also were the ones who washed the bloody clothes of the slain (they’re also associated with swans in some cases! Perfect for an elegant spitfire like Miyako, and also relates to the subtitle of her spell, Swan Lake, which was a Russian ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and fashioned out of a combination of Russian and German folk tales!)
And now, why I chose the opera instead of the original epic.
This might just be wishful thinking on my part, but I believe Lawless, with his Greed and love of gold and oh many pretty, shiny things, might eventually clash with Sigurd in some capacity as the man’s Fafnir, the evil dragon who hoarded his treasure and who Siegfried had slain.
And what’s more Greed Pair... Than an Opera?
Side note! It’s thought that the anonymous poet who wrote the Nibelungenlied was from... Austria! Just like a certain pianist we all know and love. Wonder if that’s related~
Now, someone already pointed out that Sigurd has the same name of a legendary hero in Norse/Germanic folklore. In Chapter 107, it’s shown that Sigurd uses a ring as a magical medium.
This may be a reference to the Andvaranaut (or the ring of Nibelung from Richard Wagner’s opera cycle of the same name).
In Norse mythology, Andvaranaut is a magical ring that was first possessed by Andvari. It was later (after loads of betrayal and murder) in the possession of Sigurd, after he slayed the dragon Fafnir.
Also, could it be that the print on Sigurd’s capelet be the dragon Fafnir guarding the ring?
