I know most people don't like "classical" music, so don't be ashamed to skip over a piece if it's too long (the bach organ works in the middle can get tedious for less enthused listeners, although I would encourage you to listen to the entirety of #6 - most people never have).

Info below the cut for my thoughts on some of these pieces

Firstly, for any music buffs who might see this, I know that Mozart wrote in the classical era and not the baroque era. I included the two movements from the Requiem because they are among the most recognizable hallmarks of dramatic so-called "classical" music. The words from the dies irae I used in the header are also fitting to the theme of this playlist

Although the more recognizable movements of Vivaldi's Four Seasons are quite bright, the ones included here are quite fittingly dark, and also serve to show that the most common parts of a work aren't necessarily definitive.

The inclusion of the Bach organ works was a no-brainer. The first Toccata and Fugue here is probably the most recognized organ work, tied perhaps with Mendelssohn's Wedding March. The Dorian Toccata and Fugue is one of the few famous pieces written in the dorian mode, and it compliments the first quite well.

Speaking of Mendelssohn I know that he's from the early romantic era, but I feel I've kept the theme okay? The inclusion of Elijah was intended to represent the powerful and dramatic oratorios that fit the theme of this playlist, while also providing some variance.

Going back to Bach (haha) for a minute, the inclusion of Variaitons 15 and 25 from the Goldberg Variations was partially because I wanted to fill out the variety of the playlist, but I noticed something in the recording of Variation 15: Canon at the Fifth that I thought was both fitting and quite eerie. The recording is from Glenn Gould's 1955 recording of the Goldberg Variations (relevant because of both his development as a famous classical pianist and his relatively young age at the time of the recording), and throughout both the 1955 set and the 1981 set, Gould can be heard over the piano, breathing in time and sometimes humming along faintly. If one is listening to the entire recording this becomes a noticeable feature but remains in the background. However, when this recording stands alone, the combination of his thinly-sounding voice and the static adds quite a creepy undertone to the recording that was serendipitous to the theme of the playlist. If you are reading this after the fact and didn't hear it the first time, I encourage you to go back and listen to that one again.
