Was the 8 months old baby born on the whaleship or did Azubah embark right after? Also, is Alexander, the other child, still with them?

The baby, William Murray, was born in Hilo. The captain had left Azubah and Alexander there about 5 months into the voyage for a whaling season. It wasn’t unusual for captains to leave their families off in Hawaii as they went on to whale further north, and then they’d come back and bring their families on board again after that. If they could help it, captains and their wives would also have their babies delivered ashore rather than on the ship. Azubah would’ve been about 4 months pregnant when she’s left in Hilo (though makes no indication or mention of pregnancy at any point) so…it’s a bit unclear if that was another reason as to why she was left there.

She also doesn’t write in her journal for about a year, so I don’t know what her support network was for having the baby there or what that was like for her. Nearly a year later she returns to her journal, saying “there are many things that transpires that I would like to remember” and proceeds to fill in some of the gaps.

“On the 27th October of 1851 we left Hilo and all the our dear friends there, and went on board of the Columbia [her ship] with the addition of a darling little boy to our family. being 2 months old at that time we went to Mowee [Maui] and was there a week.”

The family spends another week or so at the Islands before continuing on the cruise. And apparently none of them took to the separation well on the last season, because where I’m at now Azubah and Alexander are on board this time around as the Columbia whales around the Bering Strait.

Hey, I'm currently watching mash (two eps and I'm done. I'm terrified), and I saw in a post that you wrote that Aggie (War co-respondent) is Hawkeye's mirror. Why's that?? That episode drove me crazy ("We met each others because of the war. I don't think that's enough for two people " so what about Hawk) but I love this show so much, it's fine if it drives me even more crazy (I'm desperate for character/episode analysis and I'm finding such good character analysis fics and posts I swear this show is absurd)

there’s a lot of things that make her a hawkeye mirror so forgive me if this isn’t an exhaustive list but off the top of my head: 

- the fact that they make bj equate liking aggie to liking hawkeye 

- the fact that aggie describes herself as the unit’s “mascot” which is basically hawkeye’s role too 

- the fact that hawkeye and aggie have soooo many similar lines. for example in the mess tent scene at the beginning of the episode aggie is talking about the unit she’s following and bj says “it must be deadly” and she answers “yes but it’s kind of wonderful too. it’s the people, you get so close” which is very reminiscent of hawkeye saying “crazy thing is, hell though it is i think i feel closer to the people in this hospital than i’ve ever been to anybody in my life” when they’re at rosie’s in welcome to korea  

- aggie specifically flirting with bj through puns and making a “yalu pages” joke which is very similar to the “follow the yalu brick road” joke hawkeye makes in welcome to korea 

- them dressing aggie in a hawaiian shirt when she’s having a drink with bj in the officers’ club & making her ask bj about being married which is once again very similar to the beejhawk dialogue in welcome to korea 

- the dialogue between bj/aggie during their parting scene which is incredibly similar to the one between bj/hawkeye during their parting scene in gfa 

- this one is more of an interpretation but bj’s entire “it’s the way i’m beginning to feel about her” speech sounds like he’s talking about hawkeye & it’s very easy to interpret it (no matter what was the original intent behind it) as either the speech of a repressed gay man currently realizing he isn’t straight because he’s met the person who makes it click or a gay man who’s never been in love/has only felt sexual attraction toward men so far currently realizing that he is in love/wants a future with another man “she’s all i can think about. and not just about being in bed with her. i’m thinking about being with her”

How can one know it's Emotional dysregulation at play or if instead emotions in adults (as in, not teenagers or children) work just like that™, especially if your Emotional dysregulation doesn't manifest itself in being "too sensitive and/or just melodramatic" but in other ways? Can it even manifest itself in other ways?

Emotional Dysregulation doesn’t just mean “too sensitive” or anything like that, it means that your brain isn’t properly regulating (controlling) your emotions. So it’s not just the negative ones, it’s the positive ones, too. 

We can get so excited, so quickly, and then minutes later we can drop into a state of complete anger because of one little thing that happened. 

And I suppose the way you can tell that it’s not just “Adult Emotions” is that it doesn’t feel like you’re an adult. We may think that we don’t have the right level of emotional maturity that we should do for our age (and other people may agree) because of how happy and excitable we can get. We generally come across as younger than we actually are because of this.

As people grow up, their ability to regulate their emotions gets more developed, and people stop quickly switching between emotions (unless they have hormonal things going on), whereas we never properly develop that ability.

😂😂😂😂😂 eu percebo! Eu também às vezes tenho dificuldade em entender alguns brasileiros, e os portugueses NÃO SÃO os mais fáceis de compreender (nós enrolamos muito a língua, comemos muitas sílabas). E mesmo quem aprende português do Brasil, tem mais dificuldade em entender o Português Europeu

I'm totally sold on "Percy isn't white" cause it actually makes more sense, but I'm not American and I read a couple of years ago that the headcanon started because Percy said he lived in a mostly-not-white neighborhood. Do you remember which neighborhood is it? Is it populated by African American or Latinos or someone else? (The way Americans divide New York into neighborhoods that feel more like cities is interesting and a bit weird cause I get it but also NY is way bigger than Palermo)

i think you might be referring to this? i know nothing about ny but from that post it seems super likely that percy could be afro-latino and theres nothing in the canon text saying that's false, so im taking it as a fact
