session ten

The group leaves the Thieve’s Guild shaken at the news of the new poison sweeping through the city. Kepesk, struck by inspiration,  heads straight back to their home to install the final piece to his newest mechanical creation. While walking through the Red Shard, the party spots Serissen talking with a dragonborn and they’re invited into the Bear Trap tavern. It’s Vuthara’s “brother” -  Fedg, or Mama Slay, who  runs the Bear Trap and has heard of some of his patron’s being jumped in the alleyways late at night. The attacks have thinned out the evening crowd in the Red Shard and left most of those who make a living there uneasy.

One of the queens walks by the table constantly, huffing, and glaring daggers at Du. Fedg knows her as Abel, one of the younger patrons of the tavern who is prone to theatrics. This shows itself when Abel assaults Du and calls him a hussy and accuses Du of stealing someone away. The entire party almost gets in a fight before Fedg pulls Abel away, and promises to meet the group later for dinner at Serrisen’s manor. Kepesk arrives just in time to see the fight and see both dragonborn standing side by side. He is humbled.

Halfway through dinner, Mihra asks about Kebechet, who hasn’t been seen all day. When the group goes to retrieve their blue friend, things are amiss. The cellar is eerily silent and Klindal spots shadows moving under the door and hears water dripping along the stone. Inside is what is left of Kebe - a floating husk staring at the seaweed tome. Ethereal tentacles have wormed their way between the cracks of stone. The ceiling looks to be made of the ocean itself. The room has a sense of no longer being part of this world. Kebe shoots the group with a strong bolt of lightning and after fighting their way towards him, and after a strenuous battle, Du decapitates him.

The manor starts to collapse the group flees the building. It is left habitable, but lopsided. Physical tentacles burst through the manholes and cracks in the cobblestone pathways of the street. It’s a long night of reassuring the panicked that all is well, and that nothing is rising from underground to devour the city. In the morning, the party receives terrible news. A new victim of the poison has surfaced.
