Does That Make me Crazy? | Declan and Howard
Howard sat, in his chair, his eyes closed. Inside his mind, he was standing in a river, water running lazily passed his legs. A long fishing pole, with a thick green line was poised in his hands, ready to be cast out into the water for the trout to bite.
He felt the water's icy chill running up to his thighs, through his rubber wading pants, though he didn't feel wet. He assumed the water was just cold. He cast his line, and then flicked his wrists, and it was behind him, the small insect on his hook glimmering in the sunlight.
A fish jumped out, catching his hook as he flung it back, and he smiled. Another bite. He reeled it in, hefting the rod over his shoulder, and heading over to the bank, where his cleaning supplies sat.
Then a man stepped out from the shadows. Howard was surprised to see that it was himself... almost. There cat-like eyes where his were, and long claws stretched out at least an inch from his fingertips.
This man was covered in blood.
"See?" he whispered, and Howard felt fear bubbling up inside him, "This is who you will become!"
He jerked awake violently, breathing heavily, feeling sweat pour down the back of his neck. He covered his face with his hand, before he heard a knock at the door.
Was he expecting a patient?
