Memory as a Sessionist @ gigs in Penang It was 8 years ago, when I was playing at a gigs for the first time as a sessionist. It was a totally different experience as I was not familiar to play for underground scene. I was asked by the organizer who's also my friend to play for a band as a sessionist. My task was to rearrange the music so that it would look like a fusion kinda music. It was actually a mixed genre gigs. Some bands played punk rock, some played ska, we played weird songs and bunkface was there too.. The memory I would like to share here is during the practice session. As usual a night before the performance, we were scheduled to practise the songs we wanted to play. I was amazed to see a few skin head community were together with us in the studio watching our practice session. They did enjoy our play as we always tried to fuse the song with some touch of melodic solo. I still remember one of d skin head guy was so interested with our music. Though he looked really "ganaz" with d pierce, thorn shape bangle and etc, he was really kind .. and his friends too .. I still remember everytime my turn to play the solo part, he would approached me to watch closely. Even during the event, he was very helpful. If the amps went wrong he would go to the amp and tried to do somehing though I know he was not expert on that. Furthermore, whenever I asked for help, he would definitely lent me his hands. Though we didn't take pictures together but I still remember how my perception was wrong about this kind of guy. I prayed to Allah may these people will always have kind hearts. Even they dress differently, and aggressively enthusiastic towards music, I hope they will always obey Allah's order. InsyaAllah.
