"Toussaint - the land of love and wine!" "Exactly how I remembered it..."
‘An elegant little castle,’ Cahir said in admiration. ‘Well I’ll be, an elegant and pleasing little castle, indeed.’ ‘The duchess lives well,’ said the vampire. ‘You have to admit it.’ ‘Fucking nice gaff,’ added Angoulême.
i thought the girl in beauclair's gwent card bore a striking resemblance :) i gave it a little edit, for geralt & co. arrived to beauclair as “autumn was passing and winter was coming...”
so here's angoulême admiring the 'fucking nice gaff,' sometime in mid-october, as the snow begins to fall
(Beauclair by Maciej Łaszkiewicz)
By Regis’ side, the night ceased to be dark, hostile, menacing, and full of danger. She no longer had to sneak, no longer had to skulk away from guard patrols, no longer had to turn her head, meeting others’ eyes with contempt. From dusk ‘till dawn, Beauclair became their playground.
"is it a bad time for advice?" "as a matter of fact, it is. it'd be nice if you'd leave me to my thoughts. and apologize for disturbing me." "i apologize. the private conversations with the self are, after all, invaluable and sacred. but i would still like to present you with some humble advice: you're quickly approaching hypothermia."

the aforementioned consistency of the trout lore—because i want to show how trout accompanied geralt’s company through their journey from brokilon to beauclair
baptism of fire, chapter 2: in the ribbon, outside of brokilon
baptism of fire, chapter 7: streams north of the jaruga
tower of the swallow, chapter 6: stream flowing into the sansretour, in the north case
(bonus regis, who also catches trout)
lady of the lake, chapter 3: beauclair in toussaint, caught from mountain lakes
sapkowski does a fantastic job with environmental descriptions, but they are often overshadowed by such lovable characters and interesting dialogue that readers often skip the descriptions of surroundings to get to conversations. truly, dj khaled suffering from success.jpeg.
each environment, each place, has such a specific vision with so many little details. each scene is a painting in prose.
thus, this is an appreciation post for some of my favorite environmental descriptions including landscapes, building, and food in the witcher, particularly from along the hansa’s journey as those are my favorite scenes…
dol blathanna, edge of the world
the marshes and dry land of angren, baptism of fire
the mountainous region of the north case, tower of the swallow
the beauclair banquet, lady of the lake
breakfast in beauclair, lady of the lake
condwiramurs’ stay in inis vitre, lady of the lake
i want to live in Beauclair palace
i will use a knife with a rounded tip and vow on the heron. i would converse in the kitchen in the palace basement all night while drinking a cask of wine with my friends in geralt’s hanza. i’ll have a two to three hour breakfast every morning consisting of scrambled eggs, sour rye soup, stewed eggplant, rabbit patê, goose breasts, sausage with beetroot, and goat cheese every day that’s worth 5 florens. i would go to the banquet around a horseshoe-shaped table to mark the end of autumn. i am also more likely to meet knights-errant, Dandelion, Fringilla Vigo and Lady Duchess Anna Henrietta.
i wish i was beauclairoise :(
