“ Something about Hansons’s narrative has always bugged me but I never knew what until recently. Now when I listen to old interviews or watch anything re: SETB, all I hear is the guys talk about how they avoided the rock and roll lifestyle. How they turned thier backs on the usual pop star life to marry, have a ton of kids, stay in Tulsa etc. I bought into it all along but now I see how seriously snobby it all seems. They basically imply that if you don’t marry, have lots of kids, go to church and stay in the Midwest, then you are some kind of celebrity screw up. Get off your high horses guys. “
Strong Enough to Bend, the epilogue
After a long delay, the epilogue of Strong Enough to Bend is finally up on AO3. It’s been a labour of love, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. (Mobile is a PITA for embedding links - are you listening Tumblr staff?)
25 Days of Hanson // Day 11: Strong Enough To Break (food on the move + taking the walk)
“I’m starting to see why Jeff Fenster gave Hanson such a hard time about Underneath. It wasn’t that the music wasn’t good, it was the fact the music sounded the same as the last record (This Time Round.) He was trying to get them to see that, Isaac started to when he called the music “Old Hat” in Strong Enough to Break. Instead of listening to people telling them the truth they just say “they don’t get it.” Sorry to tell you guys, you are the ones who do not get it. You used to be one of the most original bands out there only to fall into the mediocrity of the same sound. String Theory was a great idea, should have been done to completely new music, not rehashed old music.“
“Maybe Fenster/IDJ didn’t want to work with Hanson anymore because Diane and Walker were too controlling. What IDJ to Hanson was terrible, but maybe they wanted to part ways with Hanson but couldn’t because they didn’t want to pay Hanson to end their contract. I’d like to hear Fenster’s side of the story”
“I want them to make a “where are Hanson now” follow-up documentary to SETB and release both on Netflix.“
“Underneath = college tour of the Strong Enough to Break documentary. The Walk = walks. Shout it Out = a (failed) attempt at getting fans to do flash mobs. Anthem = MMMHops. Middle of Everywhere = I Was Born Challenges. Do you think it's possible for them to independently release music without a side-along gimmick?“
