the impact of working for the vees + being in the spotlight. let her talk about how it actually affected and IS affecting her, the complex feelings around if i enjoyed some of it then i can't complain about any of it, how much she's still holding onto the idea that she brought it on herself or could've done something different and maybe give her a gentle reality check about it

her tendency towards people-pleasing and not setting boundaries with people she cares about and / or wants to impress, especially with 1) emotional needs and 2) sex

more friends. she's not the easiest person to befriend but once you do you've got a loyal bestie for life. will help you hide a body with only moderate complaining

casual fwb that isn't necessarily going into anything romantic, b ut the kind of comfortable dynamic where you can fuck nasty then share a cigarette and gossip about people you know

petty antagonism. like "you cut me off in traffic once and now we're sworn enemies" kind, some stupid and completely unreasonable shit, the other person may not even realise she's decided this, but odile WILL remember and she takes it VERY seriously.

anything with her voxtek co-workers. especially the ones she filmed and modelled with. what was she to them? did anyone see her as a legitimate threat or have enough newbies like her come and gone that nobody even bothers learning their names anymore? did anyone try to befriend her? warn her about what she was getting into? take her under their wing and help her adjust? would there have been resentment at someone new and unknown coming in and taking a bunch of leading roles, relief that the attention is on someone else for a change, a mix of both, something totally different?

more dynamics of any kind with the hotel staff. especially eyeing charlie and husk because i think they could challenge her in a way she really needs. people who can meet her where she is but won't let her stay there, will question her, point out the hypocrisy and avoidance when she doesn't want to face whatever they're trying to pull out of her but also won't be put off the first ( or second or third ) time she pushes back and lashes out. ( see this post also )

He had heard rumors of this boy. A commoner who had worked his way to knighthood. It was impressive, he would admit. The king had heard of this boy’s feats, heard of the many the boy had slaughtered to get to where he was.

In a way, the boy was like Ryan himself.

He was opposed to having a royal guard from the beginning. After having dethroned Ramsey, his court became anxious. They wanted their king to be protected from lingering supporters of the original ruler of the kingdom.

Then his messenger, Gavin Free, approached him one day with news. The young man spoke of a new knight that had proven himself of being the king’s guard. At first, Ryan refused, sending the young man an icy glare. But, after some talk, Ryan agreed to at least go see the boy.

That’s how he ended up here, standing uncomfortably in the knight’s quarters. He had abandoned royal court garb and let himself wear more casual wear, and stood in the doorway of the quarters, surveying the group of men currently kneeling in his presence.

“Which one of you is Jeremy Dooley?” His voice boomed in the small room, making some of the newer knights flinch. The older ones, however, started to snicker under their breath. A harsh glare furrowed the king’s brows as he walked forward. “And what is so funny?” he hissed, stopping in front of the group of giggling knights.

One of the braver ones spoke up,

“You want Dooley? Look for the runt of the litter.” With this, the whole group burst into raucous laughter. The king growled, which effectively silenced them all, then turned his gaze to the smallest of the bunch.

“Dooley of Downtown Achievement City; rise in the presence of your king.”

CHILDHOOD META.

cloud lost his father before he was old enough to form any profound sort of bond, nor grow incredibly attached to him, but he was always close with his mother. his bond with his mother strengthened over time, if only because there was nobody else for him to talk to or play with in nibelheim as the years passed. despite the conventional belief that cloud & tifa were very good friends as children ; quite simply, they weren’t. cloud was some kid that watched her from afar  ( quite literally looked up at her window )  and once in a blue moon they’d spend time together. tifa had a group of friends, and they not only disliked -- but bullied cloud as a child. even so, cloud wanted to befriend all of them; to get tifa ( -- anybody’s ) attention. in such a backwater place, there are only so many kids -- & only so many // few opportunities for friendship. cloud had no friends, but liked to believe that tifa was one.

tifa herself admits that she always “ thought ” they were close, but after thinking about it -- realises that cloud had never even been in her room, save for the one time he had to tell her he was in there. cloud had a habit of standing outside her window ( -- admittedly, a little creepy ) and looking up, with hopes that she’ll notice he’s there & let him in to play alongside her and the other kids. she never did, because the other kids pressured her not to. they thought cloud was strange ; creepy & embarrassing. 

cloud didn’t even expect her to meet with him ; much less find what he had to say interesting. cloud is desperate for attention, and the only person kind enough to even look in his direction ( -- without any hostility ) was tifa. so, like any lonely kid would, he latched onto her -- & decided, that even if he could only get tifa to look at him, that would be enough. even if just one person liked him, he’d be happy.

cloud’s behaviour as a child is what spurs me on to believe that his ‘ narcissism ’ isn’t, and never was, entirely the product of his conjured up, fake self. it was a very real part of him, if only amplified with altering himself to act how he expected a first class soldier might act. he begun to think of himself as something superior, as a child, to make up for the fact that he was lonely -- & wasn’t being validated by anyone around him. if he pretended to be indifferent to how anybody else perceived him, and whether or not somebody cared about him, then he believed that he would ( -- eventually ) become genuinely more impassive to nobody paying attention to him. or, at least, he liked to believe that was the case.

they’re both lonely & estranged growing up, and i honestly think these quotes were supposed to parallel one another to some extent. their backgrounds shaped who they turned out to be, and what they go on to do. for example, cloud’s obsession with being recognised drove him to want to be like sephiroth ; to leave nibelheim and strive to become part of SOLDIER, just like his “ hero ” . similarly, sephiroth being ‘ different ’ is what -- effectively -- spurs him on to destroy nibelheim. like @adventson has briefly discussed with me ; nibelheim is where sephiroth discovered the truth, and it’s where jenova was being kept. it’s personal. nibelheim is where cloud grew up feeling estranged, and nibelheim is where sephiroth discovered why it was he always felt estranged.

this is also where cloud’s irritable ( & aggressive ) nature, partially, stems from. he’s stuck in a vicious cycle of insecurity and anger towards both himself and those who won’t pay attention to him. these particular quotes are from the time that tifa wakes from her coma, but everybody blames cloud for her having gotten hurt in the first place. not only do the children hate & bully cloud, but i imagine the adults // parents don’t take kindly to him after this incident, either. at the very least, they’re wary of him. he grows up in a place where most everyone hates or dislikes him -- with the exception of his mother. i like to think that ( -- as sad as the circumstances are ) he grows very close to her because of this. they spent a lot of time together, when cloud wasn’t acting up & getting into trouble, and though she was stern -- she was kind, and worried for him often. cloud really loved her a lot, and thinks of her post-og.

then everyone might start looking at him ; paying attention, and not treating him like some confiscatable loser. even if he does spend quite a lot of time with his mother, cloud craves attention from more than just family. he wants to prove himself, not only to tifa -- but to his mother, and everybody who bullied or looked down on him back in nibelheim. he strives to become strong, so that he can finally protect those he cares about -- & have somebody look at him as though he was actually worth something. one primary reason cloud is so indifferent to people pushing him around -- for example, telling him to get his head out of his ass and focus on other people ( when he’s quite literally tearing apart at the seams psychologically ) is that he doesn’t have anything to compare that to. at least, not in the original game timescale. tifa was present -- & definitely acknowledged cloud more-so by crisis core -- & effectively ever since then, but zack was the only other person who treated him as though he was a human being ( -- save for his mother ) and during the original game, he doesn’t remember having a friend like zack.
