Information keepers work so that records may be used in a good way, and that the endless spiral of record synthesis and creation can continue.
I want to examine the way that the industrialization and medicalization of birth, pregnancy and motherhood has worked to reproduce capitalist conditions of production by imprinting on humans at the most pivotal and vulnerable moment of their life. Initiating them into a system of heteronormative patriarchal colonial order through intricate and normative prescriptive protocols for childrearing. These protocols are abusive, and sabotage the natural, primal, ancient biological processes of birth, pregnancy and motherhood, in order to violate the sovereignty, power and sacredness of the mother/baby dynamic and create loyal working-class subjects. I will argue that breaking this cycle is decolonial, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and revolutionary. (Settee, 2025)
