Hi Diary!!
This is my family! I am the one in the front, then on the left is my mommy Salem holding Winter, then mommy Leal holding Saylor and my daddy. Daddy never smiles much. Mommy Salem already has a big belly and she goes to Doc North a lot. This always makes mommy Leal sad because she likes to go to Doc North but she has to stay at home when Mommy Salem goes. I can’t wait till Saylor is bigger and can play games with me. Daddy says someday there will be a school where I get to go each day to learn. Now I have to sit with Mommy Leal in the kitchen and practice writing and adding. Daddy says learning is stupid, I need to learn to fish and build stuff instead, and stop drawing. He says that makes me a girl but Mommy Leal doesn’t agree. I like learning. They argue a lot and then Mommy Salem just goes outside because she doesn’t like it. I help her in the garden so I don’t have to hear them shout.
That is it for now! I am going to go with Mommy Salem to Doc North :)
Love,
-Dutch
Shade Family
Duke Shade spent most of his life having people owe him. As the owner of of the biggest clubs, he was well versed with the Chicago underbelly. His establishments included everything from relatively legal BDSM clubs and bars, to the lesser wanted brothels and poker rooms. His businesses allowed him to live comfortably, get help from the local gangs when needed, and gave him access to enough girls to last him a lifetime. He was known to be unforgiving and ruthless, hated getting dirty and found ways to end people that meant he didn’t have to pay for the dry cleaners later. He was however fair, made sure the girls who worked for him got protection and were not mistreated. What he had not counted on was falling for one of the girls. Adeline worked in the upper-class strip club since having immigrated to the USA earlier after her parents death. She fled from an abusive boyfriend and was not opposed to dancing in the club. After one of the patrons attempted to obtain more than he was due, and Duke made sure the man could not attempt this again, she fell for him, too. The man had been the son of one of the gang leaders, and as such they wanted retribution and attempted to ruin Duke. He passed his businesses over to a trusted partner and took Adeline with him to the settlement to live out his retirement in peace.
