Juniper and Thorn Spoilers

Okay but that reunion scene between Sevas and Marlinchen during the performance hits so much harder when you think about it from his perspective.

He’s in love with Marlinchen. The last time they see each other, she’s warned him he can’t come to the house and she can’t leave it very easily. Then, suddenly, flyers pop up all over the city advertising the scheme to marry off Marlinchen and her sisters. He thought he’d never see her again and that she’d be married off to someone else, because he couldn’t go to the house himself lest he be turned into snakes.

Then he sees her at the theater - she’s come for him!! Then he snaps and rebels against everyone and sabotages his entire ballet career, because, on top of being miserable in the cage he is in, he didn’t want to lose her!! That was him fighting for himself and her and I just —
