She came. Karen Page, the same woman who shouted in the cold winter’s air that he was dead to her came to the bench he’d been sitting on. He waited for her, wondered if she’d even show up. He shouldn’t have left Karen messages in the first place, should have let her be free from the danger that loomed over him. She had nearly died twice because of his actions, surely him seeking her out would once again put a target on her head. He wouldn’t allow that, wouldn’t allow any harm to come to her.
His gaze is kept toward his shoes and the concrete beneath his feet, eyes not rising to glance at the blonde who now sits beside him. They were safe here, away from prying eyes of anyone important. The graffiti covered wall in this part of the city could be his sanctuary, a safe house right in the eye of the world. No one paid him any attention as he sat waiting, eyes from blue collar workers never dared glance in his direction. Probably assumed he was a homeless man, paid no attention as they walked towards the subway to catch a train home.
“Didn’t think you’d come.” Frank starts, voice as gruff as ever as his chin finally rises to glance over at Karen. “Wouldn’t have contacted you if it wasn’t important.”
