I finished The Seventh Sun by Lani Forbes and I enjoyed it! The first 40% of the book or so was basically romance focused and it happened kinda fast - but I didn’t mind it bc it was done well. It wasn’t love at first sight it was more like “oh you’re attractive and I like what you just did there and now okay hey we’re getting to know each other now I really like you” - it worked. But honestly the book got so good after the romance was basically wrapped up bc so much more about the gods came up and there was some dramaaaaa. Also I really enjoyed reading Mayana’s struggle with her religion in the sense of what’s the gods’ direction and what was created by man to manipulate people into thinking a certain way. It reminded me of my own struggles with Christianity and how the hypocrisy of the church makes me struggle with following the real religion. I really appreciated reading it and everything Mayana struggled with felt believable and made sense. There were a few twists too - I predicted one and was proud of myself for it but then Forbes threw in a curve ball and added even more twists. I applaud authors who are crafty enough to lead you one way and then once you think you have a handle on things you’re thrown on your ass. And the book ended in a way that made me excited to read the next one! Overall I enjoyed this read
Now I will be “patiently” staring at my kindle until The Archer at Dawn pops onto my screen. I swear if it’s not there right at midnight I’ll scream - good thing I’m wfh so I don’t really have to be up that early
