Love love LOVE that we've explored a lot more about Harmony Cobel, her relationship to Lumon and severance and why she is the way she is. But now that these doors are opened, and since we also got more insight into Seth Milchick and his particular freak, you know who I'm desperate to dive into? NATALIE.
Beautiful, perfect Natalie, who is no more her own person than the severed employees, who is an ear for the elusive board to whisper into and a mouth to speak their words, never hers. A mouth that is either smiling or about to, but a soulless smile, a condescending, fake, plastic smile. The board's words, never her own. The board's entitlement and disdain, packaged in a flawless, put-together appearance, imposing but non-threatening, not white but not too black, every mannerism and voice inflexion perfectly chosen, a robot, a front. The pefect secretary with an appearance of power and agency but they're not her own. Only ever called by her first name. Unable to improvise, lose control or get personal. Always watching, always watched. Despised herself. She probably had to push down so many parts of herself and work so hard and practice that smile in the mirror because that smile pays her bills and she is feared but not for herself. No one knows her. No one cares. Hated in the board's stead. A face, a mouth, a scapegoat. Probably just as easy to fire if anything goes wrong as the next person. Does she think she's privileged? Or does she know that as long as you're on the payroll, there's no such thing?
