Random thought of the day I can't get rid of after watching& especially listening to some S2E8 Severence analyses online:
Is it me or does Diethyl ether sound/look very close to name Dieter?
At least the way I heard it pronounced in some videos as /deeethyl eeether/ not /dai'ethyl eether/ as I thought it should be.
Following from this, is the already apocryphal Dieter not a Kier's twin, but instead a more prone to mood swings version of Kier when hopped up on ether, that he had to 'cut to heal' himself? A Jekyll to Kier's Hyde?
Like if after a particularly abhorrent bout of misbehaviours, K decided to lay off the direct contact with diethyl ether(stop working a lower tier job over the ethyr vats), conquer the 4 tempers caused or worsened by it (quit addiction and reign in its effects) and introduce living by the 9 principles akin to AA's 12 steps to let him quit cold turkey, and take the strict control of his life and success back ( become the manager/ company owner by following strict 'CEO rules')?
Of course that success was only brought, by letting others get and remain addicted working in the ether factories etc. while offering them his flimsy philosophy based on which they t e c h n I c a l l y could overthrow their addiction like him, and ' be like Kier' but which amounted to creating a cult like belief system instead. A system that Kier and his descendants were not opposed to abusing as it kept people in line and lined their pockets.
Hence when 'Mr Eagan saw Kier in' Harmony Cobel, it was that 'feisty ambitious get to the top disregarding anyone else, but also any her own personal needs' type of spirit that he saw in her and knew he could use.
Cobel may feel betrayed by Lumon now, but she's mad because of their betrayal of her, not because they're evil. She may be the villain the plot needs, but she's not the hero we are looking for.
