in the #madoka spirit with @starlightslk at the movie last night ^^
After an entire year of anticipation, worry, stress, and love... I'm finally about to return to Black Rock City! It's all I've been thinking about, and I've been preparing nonstop. So tomorrow, my boyfriend and I leave for our 2012 adventure! 8>
First, we're flying into San Francisco and I LOVE it there. We'll bum around for a day or two (read: stuff faces with good food). On Saturday by a completely lucky coincidence I'll be making it to the San Francisco J-Pop Summit! I'm still undecided if I'll wear my Makoto Kino school uniform cosplay, or just enjoy the lovely weather and a little SF con. ^u^ Saturday evening, we'll make the 4-5 hour drive to Reno!
Early Sunday morning in Reno, we'll meet up with our campmates then hit the swap meet for fun, get groceries and supplies, unload the storage unit, then HIGH TAIL IT OUT TO THE PLAYA. *u* Andddd that's where I'll spend the rest of the glorious, beautiful, dusty week. Out there, I'll also be cosplaying Yoko from TTGL, and Nabooru from Ocarina of Time. DESERT APPROPRIATE COSPLAYS GO! <3
After this, (I honestly don't even want to think about life after Burning Man... can it just not end??) we'll go back to San Fran for another 5 days (evening at the Japanese bath house and massages, at least looking forward to that omgg). THEN back to Philly for ONE NIGHT, then off to Wisconsin for the wedding of two very dear friends! *flail*
Basically to summarize long post is long- I'll be gone a while!! I set up a little tumblr queue, and my giveaway will end when I return! I'll probably be posting photos here and there from SF, and probably sneak a couple at Burning Man too for fun ^u^ ANYWAY, I'll miss all'a you guys! See ya on the flipside <33 BURN ON
How long have you been cosplaying/sewing? uvu
I've been sewing since I was single digits! I don't remember an exact age, but I have very crafty grandmothers ^u^ One taught me to knit and the other taught me to sew! By the way- it's my initials that spell SEW! I've thought that was ubercool since I even knew WHAT initials were! There's my tumblr name for you.... But anyway, I was always experimenting with making stuff. I mostly hand sewed stuffed animals and doll clothes as a child. In early high school I started messing around with making clothing, and did my first cosplay for a convention in 2002. I have NO IDEA why I stopped after that lol!! (maybe because my parents didn't let me travel to cons by myself but I really just don't remember) After that though, I pretty much was just making my own original party/halloween costumes and such for fun. (OH RIGHT and going to fashion school HA HA no life). I didn't cosplay again until 2009. I can't regret the "lost" time cosplaying between those years, I guess it just didn't happen! x3 But now cosplay is the tied-for-first most important thing in my life and I'm super thankful for everything it brings to my life!!
Sorry for the long answers to asks... I guess I'm talkative today xD Thanks for asking though! Any more curiousity out there...? TMI wednesday ftw <3
What first got you interested in Burning Man?
Hmmm, gosh thanks for asking Nicole! ^///^ This might be a long answer hehe! I think it was something that was bound to happen over the course of my life! It just seems to make sense to me, and it feels so natural. I've always been interested in alternative things since I was a teenager, for complete lack of a better descriptor word. I mean, I've always felt like I expressed myself a little differently than most people and didn't quite understand it for so long. But I guess there really is a chain of events that led to it. When I was 19, I went to Israel for the first time. Out there, I started going to weekend psytrance parties with my friends out in the mountains. This was kind of a gateway to experience how much I loved being in the middle of rural nature with a beautiful, raging electronic music party as the sun is rising! haha not quite burner spirited yet, but super fucking fun xD
When I got back to Philly, I started going to other parties with my best friend- specifically PEX parties. These parties were completely immersive, unlike any clubby party. Everyone was dressed to the T with their wildest forms of self expression. The visual and performance art pieces were incredible. It really was a wonderful thing to come into at that time. I also started learning to play with fire at this point! I don't do it much anymore, but it was so freaking cool. From friends we started making there, we learned about Burning Man and the smaller East coast regional events. That fall '07, we started going to Playa Del Fuego in Delaware which is a completely Burning Man spirited event, just much smaller and located somewhere else. There are lots of them across the country.
So, that's pretty much it! I fell in love with PDF and started going to other local festivals (both Burning Man spirited, as well as psytrance- which are pretty different). At my college, we didn't have a summer break longer than 1 week, so Burning Man wasn't at all feasible until I graduated. I bided my time for like 4-5 years dying to go to BM and waiting until I could xD Buuuut last year I made it happen, and even though it's changing so quickly (the event already was pretty different only 5 years ago- i'll just say pop culture kills everything) I'm super happy to have it in my life. <3 That's an understatement!
