posting this outside the long post to say that my 15th century nun is finished!

I am very happy how it turned out and can't wait to wear it at the Oslo medieval festival next weekend!

back in December (?) I was truly floored by Ateez costume designs for Gayo Daejeon (made by the Teal Seoul studio❤️‍🔥)

so I've been burning with a need to make a.. an homage for my plushies 😅

The first attempt at Woo's coat was too unsuccessful, i was so frustrated( so there are no photos of the process on the second attempt🥹

but at San's I got a bit more confident -

I finished the skirt 🥳 Pics below! Tomorrow I'll start cutting the pattern paper and looking for old faded/holey sheets to make mock-ups for the dress. Wish me luck!

So I didn't take pictures wearing the thing, because I was in a hurry to quick-wash it (I don't have a big enough table for cutting, so the fabrics were on the floor a lot) and hang it to dry. But here's what it looks like from the front, with the sashes (which I'll be making longer next time):

Please ignore the ignominious mess in the background 😅 I don't know why it looks like it's two different colours, it's like... dark denim? but lightweight.

And here's the back, seen from the front:

I had to put a clothes peg to see the (pink) inside pocket - the opening is that well hidden in the fold otherwise :D I used white elastic and the (black) closure of an old bra that no longer fit me to tie in the front and made a placket (using some cabbage from... maybe the frankenskirt?). The thingies hanging from either side are the pockets. Also, you can't see it from this angle, but I inserted a rectangle in the back to make an inverted box pleat (or maybe a cluster pleat? I'm unsure of the terminology), like at the back of late Victorian/early Edwardian walking skirts. Good thing I did, too, because I almost couldn't match front and back well enough to sew the lower half! Fortunately, the excess fabric juuust allowed me to. Hurray for half-circle skirts that you can lay flat on the floor :D

A few weeks ago you were talking about making your medieval fayre outfit? How'd that go ! I was meant to go to a medieval fayre next week but it got cancelled cause of the Sydney rain :^(

Actually today was the medieval fayre! I sewed a red cloak and altered a dress I bought from the fayre last year (took out the entire Central panel and added a new one with very cursed brocade). Plus I made a headpiece, based very loosely on a french hood!

Next year I'm going to try making my own dress!

I forgot to take photos of the first jean mending I did for one of my friends and I am posting progress on my second one I am currently working on so that I will hopefully remember to take pics of this one before sending it back to my friend.

This talk about a watercolour travelling kit got me thinking ... I have been thinking for a long time about some kind of case where I could put all of my needed sketchbooks and pens when I go out. (Because last time i went to visit some family, I just put my pens in my suitcase and my two sketchbooks, trying each time I needed one to search it endlessly).

With some leftover fabric. Can contain 3 A6 sketchbooks. All of my usefull pens.

I thought at the beginning it was a bit larger than what I wanted but it can actually hold my watercolour kit too ! Best of both worlds !

Anyone with a bit of sewing expertise will see the flaws immediately, but I don't care, it's good enough for me.
