Bear sewing caddies and spool holders (c. 1880’s)
It should come to no surprise for anyone who has spent some time reading this blog that I like to sew. It is an intergenerational love that I have inherited from my darling mom, and she has taught me all the tricks of the trade. Being a retiree, my mom volunteers at the repair cafe in her town, and to my great indignation, she transports all her sewing bit and bobs in an ordinary tupperware box. Of course, this travesty could not stand, and as mother's day was coming up I set out to make my mom the nicest sewing bag I could manage with several smaller pouches and bags that attach to the main bag with hidden magnets. So we have got the main bag and a fairly big cilindrical bag in which she can store her bobbins and tape measure. We have an envelope pouch for her chalk, pens and smaller quilting measures, and one pouch for her scissors. And last but not least, a pincushion and a sewing book for her needles.

This project is perfect for tin…

Showing off my new armrest sewing caddy, with ideas of how to make your own
I put a lot of pins and needles in our couch’s armrest, and it doesn’t seem fair to the poor thing. We do celebrate its birthday, after all, and it is just rude to be poking it all the time. So I made a little pincushion and sewing caddy to keep all my sewing and cross stitching supplies in one place, and out of the cushions. I roughly followed this tutorial that I found on a blog called During…
