New Year, New Sewing Class
This Wednesday sees the start of my third year(!!) teaching a community centre sewing class.
In that time, I've watched my students go from having never used a sewing machine before, to creating their own clothes that they are delighted to show off to friends and family. There have been dozens of tote bags, oodles of pillow cases, shirts, skirts, dresses, and a truly amazing sparkling cowboy shirt made for a choir concert's stage performance.
And a lot of it wouldn't have happened without the support of very generous people helping me to buy my students fabric.
You see, most of the people taking my class are low- or no-income. By getting small donations, I've been able to make sure all of my students have enough fabric to make themselves at least one garment that they wouldn't otherwise be able to afford.
So, if you have a few dollars you're able to spare, please consider dropping it in my little tin cup. I also have a wishlist with supplies that would be incredibly useful for the classroom as a whole.
