#sewing problems

I hate knowing how to sew. I hate that knowing how to sew compels me to fix my own clothes when their shoddy construction destroys them cuz I don't wanna spend another fuckin thirty dollars to replace it when I have $1 of thread. Mending is the worst and it's 90% of the sewing I do these days.

Should I continue attempting to sew? I need some advice on what to do because I'm running out of ideas

Lots of bitching about my housing situation under the cut.

I wanted to sew my own clothes since I was a little girl but the confrontation with the dream has been going nightmarish. Everything is extremely pricey, so far I paid 300pln (supporting small shops yay) for a top that I can find for 100pln, i can't cut anything properly it all looks choppy af but I don't have space for cutting mats etc, the sewing machine sometimes just skips looping the thread on arbitrary basis and when I look for any explanation people are acting like it's some sort of esoteric ritual brushing it off with "EvErY maChInE Is DiFFeReNt" or listing every single element as "could be wrong". If even there's anything wrong with my machine I can't afford another one. I'm really thinking it's a hobby for people rich enough for having a whole dedicated sewing room not for someone in a one room apartment who is losing her mind over running out of space. Maybe I'm too stupid to figure out how to fix machine problems but I'm not gonna get smarter at this point. No, courses are available only in big cities. The only reasons I find for keeping going are sunken cost and theoretical clothes that maybe would look wearable that didn't manifest in any attempt and surely would look disappointing compared to pattern pictures. It makes me sad to think about wasted time and money, and to give up on an ambition but sometimes you gotta tell your inner child to shut up. Should I just give up and sell everything?

We’ve had a hell of a ride or whatever the Bo Burnham song was—IKEA ALIEN TIME. So there was basically no point to the poll I did earlier uhm…cause I made the jeans for him (was gonna be Robin) and then uh…the fabric for the shirt didn’t work out (my sister used it and I didn’t know)

BUT I FOUND RED FABRIC SO THE ALIEN IS LOREN NOW UHHHH… @just-call-mefr1es

I hate the hoodie cause I messed up and just resorted to hot glue but still💔

i watched an abby cox video forever ago about how most hand sewing needles easily available in stores absolutely fucking suck and how you have to find fancier brands online that were made in england or whatever to get good ones these days, but only recently acted on it by adding some on to my order of snaps for my meryl coat.............

ohmygod. it makes such a difference. you guys, if you hate hand sewing, go buy some slightly better needles. i got some from wawak which is an online store that specializes in notions (and they're much cheaper than what you'll find at joann's), and it makes everything so silky holy crap. i'm forever changed.

I need some help here. I recently took up sewing. I am doing everything by hand so far, and I’m quite ok with that, BUT.

I found this old toy sewing machine at my parents’ and I was trying to make it work, with no success whatsoever. It does turn on, and the needle goes up and down with a terrible noise, but it does not sew.

I cannot find any source online on thingy: it is like it never existed. There is no info about who made it on the box, and scant info on who distributed it (and none that pops up on the internet). It was gifted to me ca. 2004 (though it might have been a recycled gift of some sorts, and as such much older), and I cannot remember it ever working. I do not have a manual of any kind, and I am pretty sure it was never in my possession.

I am not even quite sure where I am supposed to put the thread (apart from the needle, it is). I put it around the bobbin-like thing with the arrow, then through the hole in the little lever and through the needle, but something is off and makes little sense in this set up.

Is there anyone who can help me out?

It’s not that I cannot afford a normal sewing machine (although it would be quite an investment and I would like to do it at a later date) but it bums me I cannot use this thing 😂

I got this fabric from Joanns last year to make a kimono for a demon slayer cosplay but unfortunately Joanns went out of business before I could get more yards. But I don't know what I should make with it.

Hey tumblr people!!! If anyone’s good at sewing, would you mind making/finding a max plush pattern? I bought a Sam one, I just can’t find max :( I will show the “pattern” I found it’s just not very good

It’s very pixel and small but I really need either a cleaner version of this or a brand new pattern, I will be happy to release a pattern if I can think of one though!!

Especially patterned expensive fabric because what if I have the matching wrong????
