Laurie Anderson and Sexmob—Steven Bernstein on brass, Kenny Wollesen on drums and percussion, Doug Wieselman on winds and guitar, Briggan Krauss on saxophone and guitar, and Tony Scherr on bass—perform “From the Air” live at Ravenna Festival in 2023. Their new triple-LP / double-CD set, Let X=X, released last month on Nonesuch, was recorded live on the 2023 tour and features 23 songs, including “From the Air” and many other favorites from throughout Laurie’s career, performed in new arrangements. 

They perform at NYC's Central Park for SummerStage on June 26 and just announced new tour dates for September in Ojai, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Chicago.

From forthcoming album The Hard Way released May 12th 2023 on Corbett vs Dempsey For over a quarter-century, the visionary quartet Sexmob has exploded all preconceived notions of what an instrumental jazz band can be. In many cases — on the albums Dime Grind Palace, Din of Inequity, Solid Sender and Sex Mob Does Bond — they’ve done so with producer Scotty Hard at the board. On The Hard Way, Sexmob’s remarkable new recording for 2023, the music skews decisively electronic, as Hard’s beats and soundscapes provide slide trumpeter and founder Steven Bernstein, saxophonist Briggan Krauss, bassist Tony Scherr and acoustic/electric drummer Kenny Wollesen all the stimulus they need for further composition and fearless reinvention.

Since the 1990s, New York trumpet player Steven Bernstein has been the ringleader of this occasional quartet. This recent album was recorded at a home studio and critic Kevin Whitehead says its rough-hewn quality is just right.
