a recording of me trying to learn one of my favorite Sexsmith songs
This circa 1920s photo shows the Fraser River splitting in the distance to embrace Sea Island and the large roof of the old Sexsmith Elementary is visible in the middle ground extreme right. The beehive burner spewing smoke is where the River Rock Casino stands today. But where was the photographer standing?
An inquisitive South Van’er named Hubert thinks that the vantage was on East 52nd just West of Fraser Street. Moreover, he suggests that the probably-demolished-by-now house at 614 East 52nd is the foreground structure on the right in the old pic. The house underwent many modifications in its lifetime, but the original, barn-like roof was still visible in 2016.
