In Costa Rica, the oncilla preys heavily upon the Talamancan deermouse, which in turn feasts on oak seeds. Because of this close relationship, the cat can keep populations in check, preventing overgrazing, says José Daniel Ramírez-Fernández, a biologist and coordinator of the Oncilla Project.

Considered by some conservationists as the world’s most endangered small cat species, the Borneo bay cat is an enigmatic species and rarely shows itself to researchers’ camera traps. As a result, little is known about its ecological role or the threats it faces.

I didn't really notice any of this the first time I watched because I was so invested in the Shakespearean tragedy playing out in the courtyard outside, but I have to say it's interesting how anonymous and inconsequential Sambong is in this drama. Poeun's exclusion makes sense because his largest contribution to the foundation of Joseon is his death, and he does keep haunting Bang-won in every way but the physical, but Jeong Do-jeon, on the contrary, is kept forever just out of reach, as blurred as a female-presenting nipple. Given the fact that Taejong will soon forbid anyone to read his books or speak his name for centuries to come, it does seem fitting.
