omg when i was little this old lady would sell sfinj outside my elementary school practically every Tuesday and she was my hero. What a treat. I refuse to compare it to a sufganya but it’s an a+ year-round variant

If we're being honest, the major similarity to sufganiyot is in the fact both are deep fried pastries. Which is probably why in my mind sfinj is for Hannukah. So you don't really have to compare it to a Sufganiyah...
Which does put into question why I mentioned them in a reply to a poll about Sufganiyot, I suppose. To which I can't say I have a good answer, really.
