Sh2-1 surrounding the star Fang (π Scorpii, upper left) // Glenn Baxter
Fang (π Scorpii) is a triple star system about 590 light years from Earth. The primary of the triple system is a blue giant about 12 times the mass of the Sun and 5 times its size. The name comes from the Chinese 房宿 (Fáng Xiù yī) meaning “the First Star of Room,” indicating its part in the Chinese constellation of the same name.
