Series four opens with five people in an office watching edited video footage, and we are informed that "that's not what happened at all"—but, no; "it is now."

So, naturally, I've done the only thing I could do, and have spent the past [unintelligible mumbling] months considering my interpretation of what really did happen. A handful of spreadsheets, numerous drafts, innumerable series four rewatches, and a hundred thousand words later—it is my privilege to present: That's Not What Happened At All.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge how indebted I am to my beloved mutual (and Dr John H Watson scholar) Rebs @victorianpining for their unwavering support throughout this project—including their refusal to believe for even a moment that this would be the simple 30k novella I once imagined it would be. Further thanks to Allyssa @gundark and Elena @ohwatson for their moral support and assistance with the beta-reading process. 🫶

Chapters will be posted on Fridays and Mondays for the next two months or so. There's also a carefully-curated Spotify playlist to accompany the written word, which I will be updating along the way for those who enjoy that sort of thing.

The tags are a bit dark, I know, but I promise there will be sunlight at the end of this; the nature of their story simply is such that they have to go to hell and back in order to get there. And so, after all this time, it is my absolute pleasure to share that story with all of you. 💖✒️🌇

what if mycroft was a meddler and also john and sherlock have kind of been acting like a married couple since the day they met and what if one day when mycroft stops by he dares to explicitly say something about what he thinks their relationship is only to find that he's wrong. but him being wrong is actually just him being right in a new and more annoying way. and also there's a cute little mystrade moment at the end. 4.3k. rated teen. mostly fun domestic fluff. (and a tiny dash of stress. but mostly fluff.)

i don't even know what sort of audience this is supposed to be for but.

3.7k post-reichenbach fic where some people decide they want to beat the shit out of mycroft in an attempt to find out what sherlock's up to. jim comes to mycroft's rescue because he would never stoop to such levels of violence when it comes to mycroft holmes. even if he will torment him by making perfectly civilised conversation. read it on ao3.

"are two J names too much" and the source material is an adaptation of the holmes canon wherein you can hardly go a single story without finding at least three J names. "who's the author here" and yeah he's a romance author in this universe but he's talking to a man portrayed by the literal author of the show which is inarguably a romance in and of itself. meansgirl if you're out there i am kissing you on the mouth. paperback writer mystrade fic on ao3.

[guy who's insane] hey what if in the lead-up to posting my s4 fic i spend my morning doing zero chemistry work and instead tidy up a fic that's been sitting in my gdocs for about a century?

was it worth the wound?

A reimagining of the events of His Last Vow, starting with John Watson sitting in a hospital, sick with worry, waiting to hear whether or not Sherlock's managed to survive that bullet to his chest. It doesn't take him long to learn the truth of who put that bullet there, this time.

did i write another self-indulgent bit of fic featuring the writer mycroft holmes meddling in things? yes, obviously. i'm writing for an audience of about two, at this point; it's fine. i had a version of this done in like 2014 and decided to rework the concept as a treat for myself this weekend.

asib canon-divergent. 1k one-shot. johnlock insofar as everything is, but this scene in particular is simply mycroft and john having a friendly little chat about a certain consulting detective. read on ao3.

okay. needed some practice getting into mycroft's head this weekend while working on [redacted] so i wrote his pov of that infamous warehouse scene from asip 🫶 ummmm idk i had fun with it! i wasn't planning on posting it but it is also very important to me that people Understand Him so....... enjoy i guess?

By the time the headlights come into view, he's four steps away from the chair, standing with his weight on his umbrella in a stance that will be read as casual, but not without being intimidating. He's had years to refine it. He did consider, of course, that this conversation might be more comfortably conducted in a warm office, but he knows that he'll never learn what he's hoping to if he does anything so straightforward as introduce himself as Sherlock's brother. And where would be the fun in that, besides?
