Lucas: I don't think this is fair

Honestly I’m just tired and cranky this morning. Like everybody gets something different from their fannish experiences. Certainly, I know there are tons and tons of queer folks in fandom who got to first explore sexuality and gender identity via fanworks and that is awesome and amazing and I would never want to belittle that! And for others fandom really is just a hobby, and they aren’t trying to get kudos for being progressive and that’s fine too. I just get tired of the grandstanding of some fans about how “progressive” this space is even when they have no intention of like...doing the work of self-reflection and self-criticism to challenge their own internalized stuff. Who repeatedly engage in criticizing other fans for not being woke enough, but then retreat behind tired arguments when they themselves are challenged.

But anyway, fandom is going to fandom. I’m just cranky about it today.
