(Yay, I finally finished another Sidebeatz fic! Thanks for waiting so patiently guys. FairySidearms requested a fic where the crew go camping and Side and Shadow get lost, so I did that one but changed it up a tiny bit. Hope you like it c: )
"Alright fellers, let's go!" D4 grinned, throwing his backpack onto his shoulders and starting up the hill. The crew, excluding Legion, Jahova and Joel, were out camping for a day or two and D4 had set them up on a long hike around the woods that stopped right at their camping site. To Side, G18, Sp33dy and Shadow's relief, D4 and D20 took on the job of carrying all the heavy equipment on the couple mile hike. The Deluxe brothers lead the way, heading along a narrow trail through the trees. G18 followed behind them, Sp33dy behind him, leaving Shadow and Side in the back.
Shadow glanced over his shoulder to make sure Side was following and found him falling behind, eyes focused on the ground. "Come on Side! Get your butt moving." He called to his friend, sighing. Why did he get stuck in the back of the line with him? He'd have to watch him like he was his parent or something, and he wasn't looking forward to that at all. Sidearm's lifted his head and jogged over. "Sorry." He breathed out, rolling his shoulders under the backpack he was carrying, which was filled with more camping supplies.
They continued their trek in silence for a long ways, trying to just get up the hills and not trip over tree roots or fall off the hillsides. Every now and then, Side would push his way forward so that he could walk right beside Shadow. He didn't want to tell anyone, but with the setting sun, being in the back of the line made him feel uneasy. Shadow had easily gotten annoyed by Sidearm's moves, but after the 4th time, he soon gave up and let Side walk beside him, their arms brushing against each other. Shadow would complain outloud about how he wished the trail was wider, but when he thought about it more, he didn't mind the closeness to Side, and that feeling was very new and odd to him.
After what seemed like hours and hours of non-stop walking, the friends decided to take a break in a meadow that they came upon. It was surrounded by tall trees and filled with various types of flowers. Sitting down, they took out sandwiches, water bottles and other small snacks to eat as they breaked. "Here you go Shadow." Sp33dy passed a water bottle to his friend, who gratefully took it. "Can I have one?" Sidearm's asked as he popped a few blueberries into his mouth. "Sorry man, we have to save the rest. But you can share with Shadow." D20 told Sidearm's apologetically, but there was a flicker of amusement in his eyes and Side sighed. Shadow nearly choked on his water, looking at D20 with shock. "Me? Share with Sidearms..." He started laughing as he looked at Sidearm's, but bit his lip and shut up. "Yeah, here Side." He passed the water bottle to him, a little angry with himself that he'd be so selfish. "Thanks Shadow." Sidearm's smiled softly as he drank some water from the bottle, leaving a little less than half left of water in it.
They all sat there, watching the sun continue to set behind the trees. D20 and D4 talked about bears and wolves and how to survive an attack from one and things like that, obviously trying to scare the rest of them with night approaching. While they listened to them talk on and on, G18 would every once and a while throw a nut or a berry at someone and act like he did nothing. Sp33dy soon got up to go find a place to pee and Side left Shadow with G18 and the Deluxe brothers to walk around as he ate half of a granola bar. He walked through the Meadow, enjoying the peacefulness of it as he listened to the faint voices of his friends. Every now and then he'd stop to pick a flower that he thought was pretty or cool. He returned when he heard his name being called and he showed up with a boquet of flowers. The others looked at their friend with amusement. "Gayyy." G18 said softly, but everyone laughed. "What?, they're pretty. Can't someone like flowers?" Sidearm's chuckled, replacing his bag on his shoulders and falling behind and following the others.
They continued on their hike back into the woods and Sidearm's kept glancing around and behind his shoulder, every sound making him jump. "Side." Shadow whispered, motioning for him to come over. Sidearm's jogged up to Shadow's side, relaxing a bit. "Yeah?" He asked, looking at him. "Uh, nothing. You were just falling behind." Shadow replied quickly, staring straight ahead. As they walked Sidearm's looked at his flowers that he still had and thought of something funny, which brought a smile to his face. He took one of the small yellow flowers and stuck it into Shadow's hair, his smile turning to a grin as he fought back giggles. Shadow looked at Sidearm's, narrowing his eyes. "Sidearm's, what the fuck are you doing?" He asked, reaching his hand to gently touch the flower. "Nothin'" Sidearm's giggled, placing another, blue flower into his friends hair.
Soon enough, Shadow had many colorful flowers placed in his hair. Shadow had a look of annoyance on his face, but a faint smile ghosted on his lips every time Side put one in his hair and giggled. "I might as well become a flower field now, Side." He joked quietly, laughing. Shadow was glad that the rest hadn't looked back though. Shadow with his hair filled with flowers? Not something he wanted them to see and laugh at him for, and possibly take pictures. He would take them out, but he found that he didn't want to take them out and potentially upset Side.
"How much longer!?" G18 groaned out after a while. They were all tired out of their minds, their legs aching like hell. "Almost there fellers!" D4 said loudly, glancing back at them, before looking forward again. "Wonder if we'll come across any bears..."Sp33dy murmured as he glanced around, sighing. They walked on in silence again and that's when Shadow noticed something wrong. He looked to his side, then behind him and instantly came to a halt, panic rising inside of him. "Side?" He called, but enough so the others didn't hear him. His heart pounded inside of his chest, glancing around. Where did Side go? It was fucking dark and they were in the middle of nowhere in the woods. Suddenly something grabbed his arm and pulled him into some bushes and onto another, hidden trail. He pulled his arm away and wiped his face, looking over to see Sidearms standing in front of him. "Come look Shadow!" He whispered, grabbing Shadow's hand and pulling him along the trail and over to a cliff side.
Shadow stopped, standing beside Side as he gazed over the cliff and at the ocean. It was still-watered and he looked up, seeing the ebony black sky filled with a million stars and a sliver of a moon. The beauty of it caught him off guard and he gasped, eyes widening. "Holy shit." He breathed out. Sidearm's smiled beside him, nodding. "I know right..." He said. The two stood there, gazing out at the scenery with awe. Shadow soon realized that he and Side were still holding hand and he removed his hand from Side's, face burning. "It's really pretty Side. But we should catch up with the others." He murmured, rubbing his bottom lip with his thump a bit nervously. "I guess you're right." Sidearm's gave a small sigh, wishing that they could've stayed there a while longer. Neither of them moved, but then Shadow sat down on the grass, patting the spot beside him. "We have time right? We'll just have to follow the trail back to find them." He smiled as Sidearm's plopped down beside him, shrugging off his backpack.
Laying on their backs, They gazed up at the starry sky and Shadow would point out constellations to Sidearm's. "You seriously haven't heard of the Big Dipper Side!?" Shadow rolled his eyes. "It's the most common constellation to see." He said, turning his head to look at Sidearm's who continued to gaze up at the stars, his eyes half closed tiredly. "No man, never." He yawned. Shadow smiled. "Adorable fuck." He whispered, turning to look back up at the sky, glad that Side hadn't heard him. But Side had and he smiled, stomache fluttering, but he didn't say anything. They laid there for a long time, just stargazing. "Oh my god! Did you see that Shadow!" Sidearms' squealed, breaking the peaceful silence. "A shooting star. Haven't seen one in a while." Shadow grinned, closing his eyes. "Did you make a wish?" Sidearm's whispered, giggling. Shadow chuckled, nodding. "Mhm, did you?" He asked, opening his eyes. "Yeah. What did you wish for?" Sidearm's asked, rolling onto his side and gazing at Shadow. "I can't tell youuu." Shadow told him, turning his head, their eyes locking.
Sidearm's blinked, biting his lip. "Did you know...know that your eyes look..uh pretty in the moonlight?" Shadow said softly and awkwardly. When he realized he had said that, his eyes widened and his face turned red. "Fuck." He whispered. Sidearm's grinned, chuckling. "No...but I do now. Thanks Shadow. Your eyes are really pretty too." He murmured, yawning and closing his eyes. Shadow layed there, reaching over and lacing his fingers with Side's, quickly closing his eyes. Sidearm's scooted closer to him so that he could snuggle his head into Shadow's chest, letting out a content sigh. Shadow smiled, feeling calm with Side close to him.
A loud crack woke up Side and he sat up quickly, gasping. He looked behind him and around, heart about ready to burst out of his rib cage. He blinked a few times, trying to adjust his eyes to the darkness surrounding him and he felt arms wrap around him. "Side? Side!" He snapped out of his daze as he looked at Shadow, now realizing that he was trembling. "Shh...it was just a squirrel or something. It's alright." He whispered as Sidearms moved closer, wrapping his arms around Shadow's neck and placing his head on his shoulder and closing his eyes. Shadow held him, rubbing his back. After a while, Sidearms pulled away, feeling better and finally calm now. "S-sorry." He murmured, rubbing his eyes, a little embarassed. Shadow shook his head. "It's fine, dork. Come on." He pulled him up to his feet and grabbed the backpack. "I can-" "Side, shut up. We need to find the others." He said, grabbing Side's hand again and heading back towards the trail.
In silence, they found their way back to the main trail. Many thoughts ran through Shadow's head. How did he feel about Side? Where were the others? Was something following them? Were the others looking for them? How did Side feel about him? Was he gay? How long did they sleep for? He gave a loud sigh and shook his head, groaning. "You okay Shadow?" Sidearm's asked him kindly. "Shut up Side." He snapped, instantly regretting it. "Sorry man...love you." He apologized in his normal way. Shadow's chest tightened and he looked at Sidearms. "No i'm sorry...i'm just thinking and I shouldn't have snapped." Shadow murmured, feeling awful now as he saw the hurt in his...'friends' eyes. "And...i love you too." He whispered, looking ahead again as his chest loosened. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Side smile and he squeezed his hand gently.
Birds started to chirp overhead, telling them that the sun was about to starting rising. "Fuck." Shadow growled, wondering when they'd come across the camping site. He felt bad. He still felt bad about snapping at Side and he felt bad that they had disappeared in the night without saying anything to their probably worried friends. "We'll get there soon, they're probably waiting for us. Don't worry." Sidearm's said as if he had read Shadow's mind. Somehow his words made him feel a little better. They continued their walk, glad that there were no hills to go up and the trail was widening, which was a good sign. "Awh, your flowers got flattened a little." Side murmured softly out of the blue, reaching his free hand to touch the side of his head. Shadow shivered a little at Sidearm's touch and gave a small smile. "You can find new ones and replace them later, okay?" He chuckled. He had forgotten all about the flowers in his hair.
"I see the camping site!" Shadow breathed out in relief as they came up to a flat area. The sun had risen quite aways by now, and he was tired from hiking. He could tell Side was tired as well, always falling behind or getting distracted. "Finally!" Sidearm's sighed heavily as they picked up their pace. "W-wait." Shadow lowered his voice, slowing down and looking at Side with a nervous look in his eyes. "What?" Side also stopped, tilting his head slightly. "Are we...what are we gonna tell them..." He stuttered out, unsure of how to approach the situation. Sidearm's frowned, not expecting him to bring this up so soon. "I...I don't know." He whispered, face flushing red. Shadow sighed, their hands falling apart. "I meant it when...when I said I loved you Shadow." Sidearm's quickly said, gazing after Shadow's hand. "I meant it too." Shadow replied softly. "But...I. Let's wait." Sidearm's confirmed. "Wait to be 'something' or wait to tell them..."Shadow whispered, rubbing his lip. "To tell them." Side nodded and Shadow smiled with relief. "Come on dork."
They found their friends awake, their camp already set up. They were ecstatic that they were back and questioned them on where they went and what happened to them and if they were okay and why Shadow had flowers in his air. "We got a little lost...uh Side found something...we're fine okay?...shut up." Finally they gave up trying to get anything else out of the two and D4 cooked up some breakfast for them. They hung out at the camp for most of the morning, chatting and thinking of things to do. They decided to go down to the ocean shore and swim later on and to also cook s'mores when night fell again.
Shadow and Side managed to sneak away later on and they made their way over to a clearing Sidearm's had found while he went to pee. "We should come here tonight and stargaze again." Side said as they sat down, Shadow setting down some berries inbetween them. "Sounds like a date." Shadow grinned, popping a raspberry into his mouth. Sidearm's laughed and gently pushed him. "Shut up Shadow." He giggled as they sat there for the rest of the afternoon, talking and laughing. When the sun began to set, the others called out for them and they got up, both disappointed that their alone time was ended. Sidearm's started back but Shadow grabbed him arm and stopped him, pulling him closer. "Shadow-" Sidearms started but Shadow leaned down and pressed his lips to Sidearm's, shutting him up. Shadow placed his hands on Sidearm's cheeks, Side wrapping his arms around his neck. Their kiss turned from simple to passtionate quickly, but as Sp33dy called their names again, Shadow pulled away, his face still close to Sidearm's. Sidearm's panted, managing to give a small smile. "Looking forward to doing that again." Shadow whispered before pulling away from Side's clutch and heading back to the camp site, leaving the breathless Side to follow after him, grinning like an idiot.
