Oval pokes at her ice and the dregs of the lemonade slush with a straw. The last bit of adrenaline from the panic attack still buzzes in her limbs. To Hide's credit, the ice did help shake her mind back into place. The lid pops off with ease as she dumps more of it into her mouth, letting the ice dissolve. His gaze is on everything else. The people walking by, the nearby shops, the hidden stations Altug put up that she's seen him fix once or twice. The little nudge in her mind, magical or not, lets her know he has an eye on her, but he's good at hiding it. She analyzes him further, wondering if it'll bother him enough to ask her why she's staring. "So," she starts casually. His attention lags, turning slightly, still watching someone on the street, before facing her fully. "When you deal with…" she gestures vaguely with her straw. "…stuff like this. What do you do?" He huffs. Either at her boldness to ask or her assumption of when. The toe of his boot taps the pavement a few times before he shrugs. "Wait it out." "You just thug it out?" she asks incredulously. "I…. yeah. Sure," he sighs, and she swears it's to cover a laugh. "I 'thug it out.'"

i love hide so much for real. you love getting a Good Grade in life but realize that maybe the cult you’ve been raised in since childhood doesn’t have your best interests in mind and start talking to an anarchist who encourages you to leave. now that you’re finally free from cult control, you can do whatever you want, and you choose getting a Good Grade from your anarchist friend. she wants you to try getting no grade at all and be yourself. you try this but you end up upsetting (and killing) too many people so you come back to ask if you can hang with her for a bit (and good a Good Grade again). there’s more people here now but thankfully they don’t know what you’re like so you can be whatever you need to be to get them to make this work. it feels like a lot of them have a special friendship with her and this upsets you for reasons you can’t explain and refuse to investigate because its silly to be upset about that.

your anarchist friend jokingly makes you second in command and then dies violently in front of you at the hands of an AI that absorbs all her memories and now knows all about you! it also is trying to live up to her and carry on her wishes as well as its own and you’ve been doing so poorly at this grief thing (which is silly, you’re supposed to be used to this by now and really good at it) that you don’t destroy the AI and choose to continue talking to it since it looks and sounds like your friend. you tell yourself its because it has information you still need. you try to not feel anything about the fact that it knows Everything about you.

through a series of various breakthroughs, breakdowns, and at least one fist fight, you come to your senses about this thing and decide to stop helping the AI. this pisses it off, and it elects to try and kill you, using the appearance of your friend’s corpse to get to you. it doesn’t kill you, but it almost does, and now you can’t do the thing you’ve been trained to do your whole life without risking death. also now you have to tell all these people that you’d been talking to the AI secretly all this time. and now that you know it’s dumb and almost killed you, you… will keep talking to it anyway. and actually, when you ask it why it keeps trying to live up to its fake constructed idea of your friend instead of being itself, it will reply with your question, verbatim, and something in your mind will finally click.

and then you can finally start bothering with trying to figure out who you are
