I believe you're talking about "The Mario Fangame Myth" written by Shadsy, aka The Obscuritory, aka Phil Salvador now of the Video Game History Foundation. Also founding author of https://ff8isthe.best/, a sentiment I don't necessarily agree with, but I do like the gusto.
Maybe he doesn't think so (especially considering the tone in which its written in the Mario Fangame Myth article), but there's a particular feather in my cap that somebody from the Video Game History Foundation said my Mario fangame changed the face of their community.
(For the worse, apparently. But still. I didn't create the screaming masses, I just lead them to the site.)

In case you guys are wondering: Shadowspider - before he lost his mind - was a highly ambitious and brilliant scientist and scholar/professor. He has (or had) degrees in engineering, nuclear physics, psychology, medicine, ancient/dead languages, history, ancient religions, archaeology, chemistry, and law and order. He's a smarty seeker.
