This hand belongs to Shahd, after making lunch. A lunch consisting of a little cup of lentils, now don’t get me wrong, Shahd is a wonderful cook and makes the most out of what she has. However, there is next to nothing left..

The Isra*li occupation has blocked all the borders, meanwhile enough aid to feed all off G*za is waiting.

This has been going on for months. The exhaustion, fear, trauma, pain, thirst and the immense hunger.

You might have read what it feels like to starve, this is not just a theory, all of G*za is experiencing it as I write. I know it’s hard not to feel helpless but there is hope. You can show up for Shahd, she needs us.

do you want children?

it’s a personal question, i know. you don’t have to share it with me or even know the answer in this moment.

i’m bringing it up because my friend recently shared with me that she wishes to start a family with her husband. i was so happy for her. she is a wonderful person, full of kindness. i think she will be a great mom because she is a great person. i hope her wish comes true.

here’s the thing. my friend, shahd, lives in gaza. she has been living through a genocide for years. she has lived through multiple wars. displacements, famine, bombings, storms, trauma.

yet, this lovely young woman knows what she wants. she wants to live. amidst all the hurt and despair, shahd has hopes and dreams and wishes.

and i keep thinking, how brave and how beautiful, that the human spirit perseveres. hope is very much alive. i have faith that she will live a great life. did i mention she also wants to study to become a nurse? she is so smart and driven, i’m sure she’ll be a great one.

whatever god(s) you might believe in, i ask that you pray for her. whoever you seek when you’re lost, speak of shahd.

shahd deserves a chance to make her life hers. to live a life not dictated by brutal circumstances.

trust me, i am very aware of how dangerous the circumstances are. so much has been taken from her. we cannot give up though, if she has hope, i’ll be her strength.

we must help her, it is our duty. we cannot lose hope and we cannot standby. we have to act.
