thinking again about haku and the whole naga business and like. i think it's incredibly interesting how haku is the one meant to be snake-coded (see: narrow irises, snake-patterned kaku-obi on his witty priest ssr, venom in his forbidden fruit ssr, the fact that his name comes from a sword originally found from a body of a serpent, his whole. hypnotic gaze ssr), but he's also the one wielding the flute. he's also the one putting spirits to rest. he's the one always holding out his hand to you. who is the charmer and who is the charmed!!

(also side bar but it's very interesting how he's the heir to a shinto shrine but he's also using buddhist imagery and taoist chants...!! wonder where the writers are going with this)
