hey, i saw you like shakespeare and i wanted to ask, what work from him would you recommend for someone like me that never read much from him? i really want to get into him but i'm not sure where should i start

i absolutely recommend Much Ado About Nothing to start. it's one of his early comedies, so it's not as "dense" or heavy to get into as say Hamlet or Macbeth. MAAN is both hilarious and heartwarming, and most people walk away loving Beatrice and Benedict and a little bit hating Claudio djsjwhsksks. mutuals, followers, people scrolling through the shakespeare tag - any other suggestions for anon?

In Shakespeare’s comedies female characters are central, and the continuity of life, embodied in Hermia and Rosalind and Viola, prevails. In the tragedies—the world of death, of Macbeth and Othello and Hamlet and Lear—the masculine supersedes, and female characters remain secondary. In the world of the romances, with its restoration of life, the feminine returns… Hermione, Paulina, Perdita, Thaisa, Marina, Imogen: with the exception of ‘The Tempest’, the romances all have feminine figures as their heroes.
