Summary: Your birthday seemed like it was going to be dreadful just like the weather outside of your window without your boyfriend here but little did you know that Tom had something extra special up his sleeve.
The rain tapped gently against the pane of your window as you stared out at the gloomy skies above. The book you had been reading lay open on your lap but your eyes didn’t return to the pages which you usually enjoyed reading.
It was the day before your birthday and whilst you knew you should have felt excited, part of you just didn’t want the day to arrive. It wasn’t that you hated your birthday or didn’t want to grow up, it’s just the one person you wanted to celebrate with most was currently half way across the world filming his new movie.
Tom had almost not gone, not wanting to miss his girl’s birthday but you had insisted. He couldn’t put his career on hold just for you but before he left he promised he would make it up to you with whatever you wanted. However, right now all you wanted was him and his cuddles as he rambled about something or other to make you smile.
Tessa jumped onto the bottom end of the bed catching you by surprise. She gave a small whine and sniffed the hoodie you were wearing which still smelt like Tom before nuzzling into it. You sighed and scratched her head.
“I know Tess, I miss him too.”
You closed your book so you didn’t lose your page and focused on cuddling Tess, letting the emotion you were feeling wash over you as you checked your phone once more for any sign of a text from your boyfriend.
“Please buckle your seatbelts and prepare for take off.”
Tom rambled apologies as he made his way through the tight aisle of the airplane, his hands full of gifts and flowers. He was grateful to finally find his seat and sit down, quickly buckling his seatbelt.
A few people glanced his way due to the amount of birthday gifts he had which made him pull his cap down to the rim of his sunglasses so people couldn’t see through his last minute disguise. Usually he was in first class with his team feeling more safe than he did right now but since the flight had been very last minute and late at night, he’d only just made it in time so he dealt with the cards he was given. Anything was worth it to come home to his girl and surprise her.
Thankfully the flight from Spain to England wasn’t long but it still gave Tom enough time to prepare himself for what he was about to do. The kind woman sitting next to him offered some kind words of wisdom as he looked over what he had planned for your special day.”
“You seem like a lovely young boy, she’s very lucky.”
Tom blushed and smiled, shaking his head. His mind was fixated on the girl who was waiting at home for him and all the best qualities you had that made him fall for you.
“I’m the lucky one.”
You woke up a few hours later after a wonderful dream about seeing Tom which was interrupted by Tessa licking your face. You giggled and squirmed, hoping for a moment that it would be Tom being his silly self just like in the dream. He had a habit of waking you up by peppering kisses all over your face.
A soft sigh escaped your lips as you blinked your eyes open, a soft smile lifting your lips at seeing an excited Tessa practically jumping on you. You wondered why she was so excited and figured maybe she was hungry or asking for a walk so you dragged yourself out of bed and rubbed your eyes.
“Okay let’s go Tess.”
The young dog jumped off of the bed and started spinning around in circles at your feet before leading the way into the hall with so much energy. Like dog, like owner.
You followed her in a sleepy state, cuddling yourself into Tom’s hoodie as you began to miss him even more. It was only a few minutes till the clock would strike midnight and your birthday would officially begin.
Tess usually made her way to her food bowl or the front door, telling you what she needed but this time she diverted her attention to the small living room where you could hear soft music playing. You swore you had turned everything off before going upstairs.
“Surprise baby!”
Confetti flew at your face as a party popper exploded, making Tessa bark as she ran to the only other person in the room. You felt your heart race as you were met with those warm familiar brown eyes you loved so dearly.
“Tommy?”
Before he could say anything else you ran into his arms and let out a happy squeal. His arms wrapped themselves tightly around you as he held you close, both of you never more thankful to see each other.
“Happy birthday darling.”
You sniffled and pulled back, admiring his handsome face before covering it with kisses. His eyes looked tired and his hair was sticking up at all ends but he’d never looked cuter.
“I thought you were in Spain?”
“You didn’t think I’d miss my girl’s birthday did you?” Tom smiled wide, finding your lips and capturing them with his own in a loving kiss as you let the tears of happiness fall down your cheeks. The way your heart skipped a beat at him calling you ‘his girl’ was the best feeling in the world.
“I don’t know what to say.” You were smiling so wide that your cheeks were starting to hurt but you couldn’t care, your birthday wish had come true before you had even blown out any candles.
“You don’t have to say anything.” Tom’s eyes crinkled with how much he was smiling as he cupped your cheek and pulled you closer for another kiss. It was slow and gentle as his lips moved in perfect synchronicity with yours as if they had never been apart.
When your lips finally did part, the goofy smile on your face was worth everything to Tom. He brushed your hair back behind your ear before taking your hand and silently leading you outside to your small back garden where he had set up your birthday surprise.
The garden was illuminated with candles as well as the fireflies that danced along in the night sky and in the middle was a small picnic full of your favourite midnight snacks. Tom’s laptop was set up with your favourite film and all the gifts he had brought home from Spain were sitting and waiting for you to open them.
A gasp left your lips as you drank in the sight of what Tom had done. Both of you were wearing comfy clothes, hardly date attire but neither cared. You were here together and that’s all that matters. Tom handed you a bouquet of your favourite flowers and kissed your cheek before leading you to sit down for a midnight feast under the stars.
It wasn’t like Tom to be sneaky unless it was for a good reason and you must have been really out of it to not even hear him arrive and set all of this up. You giggled as you cuddled into him and ate the popcorn, Tessa cuddling up by both of your feet just as happy as you were to all be together again.
Tom kissed your head and told you about his trip and how he’d tried to get home as early as possible, even being stopped by the paparazzi a few times.
“I’m sorry Tommy.”
“Hey no.” He lifted your head up with his hand under your chin and smiled lovingly. “It was all worth it for you my darling.”
You blushed as his lips pecked yours tenderly, smiling wide at all the effort he had gone to for your birthday.
Today is a very special day; today is my soul twin’s @hollandslittlekoala birthday!!! I know this year it hasn’t been the best birthday so far but me and a few people wanted to show you how much we love you and I hope this post makes you feel special because you are!!
