Shallow Sanction - Vacant Rituals

Shallow Sanction – Without Light 7'' (Alter)
Man, when this thing kicked on with the opening chords for “Vacant Rituals” all I could think was “welp, here comes some pretty straight up Christian Death worship”, which in the end is certainly a part of it...but thankfully there is a bit more to Shallow Sanction than just stumbling down that much retreaded avenue...especially currently. The song quickly picks up more and more layers of distortion and electronic hiss/buzzing that eventually approaches such a density that it nearly becomes one big solid wall of noise in spots, what it does is certainly move it away from the basic death-rock plod to something vastly trashier with some real force behind it too. I guess that's the result you get when you add Cremation Lily to the mix to add a hefty dose of power electronics behind an already gloomy blast of post-punk. Not so sure what an entire album of something like this would be like...I could see how it would lose it's appeal over a full ride, however I'm assuming that's kind of why these ended up on a two song single in the first place. Certainly worth checking out to hear something that kind of takes a little bit of a different approach to the whole moody/gothy post-punk angle. Shallow Sanction - Vacant Rituals (stream) BUY IT!
Shallow Sanction - S/T EP
Shallow Sanction - Shallow Sanction 12" now in stock. Debut release from London's Shallow Sanction. A refreshing but authentic take on the lineage referencing bands such as early Christian Death, Amebix, and Conflict. Shallow Sanction rejects the otherwise 'in the red' and overly distorted approach of recent years for a more honest, stripped down and raw gothic punk sorely missing from many of their contemporaries.
An aggressive, 'only man left' feel runs through the ep. An isolated and anthemic voice echo's along cold rainy drums and bloody nose bass, accented by the unusual introduction of effects and smartly placed electronics along the way in an otherwise skeletal and frightfully nuts and bolts morbid punk sound. Shallow Sanction evokes a nihilistic, apocalyptic, youthful, urban mentality set in old London coiling in on itself.
