Clay Rendering “Nature’s Confusion” b/w “Vengeance Candle” (2013)
Omega WUSB’s Year One gave this married outfit a spin of the wheel when this Russell Haswell-mastered (!) 7″ was released, but they didn’t have an effect on us...yet. We went to Hospital Productions’ 20th in Greenpoint where Mike & Tara Connelly (no relation to Chris but, man, do we wish) were on the ticket. That’s when we took that opportunity to soak it in and appreciate them more. They didn’t disappoint. The polarizing on-stage dynamics between husband and wife was a nice touch during their doom-rock set. You could see Tara more controlled and serene-in-motion standing behind the keys and beat machines while Mike revved guitar riffs with energy and enthusiasm while strikingly singing “she’s fucked!”. I guess he really got into it when he tried peeling off his wife’s hosiery and gently wrapping the mic-cord around her neck before ending their set with a kiss. It was only a piece of what would be a monumental noise / darkness festival and one of the best five days of my life. For our first show back to start Year Six, we did a double New York City label-anniversary tribute for Hospital and another favorite ours: Sacred Bones. We had to showcase them again with “The Pest” off of 2014′s Waters Above The Firmament as kudos to a performance well done.
Please keep in mind not to stare into’s Tara’s contemptuous gaze for too long. You will lose.
