Y/N L/N was born on the south side of Chicago, to parents Y/D/N & Y/M/N. He grew up in the ghetto as some would call it, but he saw it as home, especially when he met a particular boy his age, Carl Gallagher. Carl was a troublemaker, he had 5 siblings, 4 older siblings, and 1 younger. Things become tense between the two as years pass and change hits.

last thing I'm going to say about shameless (lie):
people making spicy fanfic or edits to songs about sex for carl (in seasons 1-9ish) is like really weird...like he is a child. a minor who is played by a minor. like in season 11 he is 19. that is barely an adult. while I do think the show portraying him as sexually attractive or like having sex does contribute to this its still weird to see adults fantasizing about a child character (again ik edits and fantasizing about him are different and most of the people doing this are harmless but overall it rubs me the wrong way and idk its just uncomfortable) note this isn't just a Tumblr thing, I've noticed A LOT of edits of him on insta.
Prompt: Prepared to go to military school your best friend Carl and you begin to show your truer feelings about each other.
~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
I feel you behind me ringing bowls right next to my ears
Tone was so clear so that we all could hear when the water washed around us
Salty; Holding us dear
“Military school?” you said. He nodded. You chuckled, “After not seeing you for a year while you’re in Juvey, going through your cornrow and gangster phase where you’re out in some obscure place half the damn time, now you just wanna up and leave?”
“I think it’ll be good for me, (Y/n); after Nick and all the shit we’ve gone through... you know, maybe I can wipe the slate clean with this.” You exhaled slowly, your hair brushing your cheek as you let your eyes drift to the floor in a quiet thought. “Hey, it won’t be that long,” he told you, reposing his hand on your arm in an attempt of reassurance. “We’ll definitely see each other before you hit thirty.”
“Oh hahah, very funny,” you chuckled. “You better spend some fuckin’ time with me then if you don’t plan on coming home for the next few dozen holiday’s.” His smile simmered into poignant gaze as you let out a heavy sigh and slanted your head to the side as to hinder your suddenly leaden expression from him.
I’m swimmin’ with all my slippery beginnings
Weeks passed and the time you spent together was bounteous and thickened richly the more you both remained together, but although your time together deepened in ludic elation, in those passing moments there was always a vague ticking garrisoned in your mind, simply awaiting for the orders to burst-- burst! and billow the alarm that’ll shoot shards of repent into the beating combatant’s drum that is your heart.
You knew Carl, you were always there for him through everything: him blabbering to you about his first girlfriend, the both of you freaking out when Frank tricked him into thinking he had cancer, the drugs and Juvey, the constant family dysfunction, and now this. Only you won’t be going through this with him; if he leaves, you’ll both be away and on your own.
“Hey, pass that,” you softly spoke. He took a drag and slipped the joint between your fingers as you languidly lied next to him.
You withdrew a plume of smoke and a smiled tugged at your lips as you recalled a memory. “Remember when we were kids and Lily Aprasem was tuggin’ on your hair and kept spitting on you from the gaps in her braces and so I dragged her by the braids into the cubbyhole’s we had and she never messed with you again?”
“You mean the only time in history that you had to protect me in school? Yeah, that was a minor era.” You nudged him and laughed. He nudged you back, smiling.
“I guess I’ll just have to figure out how to shield my poor frail self from the cruel world without my Carl in shining armor,” you chuckled, putting out the roach.
“Will you?”
“I’ll have to,” you said, “but how are you ever going to survive without me? I'm half the fun in this friendship.”
“I’ll save the other half for when I get back and see you.”
“You better,” you told him, eyes flicking to his pale irises. Your breathing slowed as your eyes caught his, and your lids twitched in an encumbered thought. “Don’t change too much, okay?” His gaze shifted in a soft reflection. “I just want you to do what’s good for you, is all. And if this is it, then... I’ll let you go, I just... Carl, I...” the beat of your heart rose to your ears, inundating the filter that cleaved the conduit of emotion to your mind.
White linen, sheet twisting
Limbs clenched so hard, mouth so resistant
Your hands fiddled with the cream ripples of the bed’s sheet, feeling a vestige of indecisiveness dull your jaw’s ability to make out the words. Your eyes looked to his in a silent entreat, an answer for something-- anything. You breathed deeply at the sight of him, brown hair curled in a beautiful mess, eyes wide and swimming with a silent inquiry and lustrous thought. Your fingers slightly walked forward in a covet to grasp his hand. Carl bit his lip and glanced at you, then he gently lifted your chin and embraced his lips with your own.
He paused, slowly pulling away to lock eyes with you. “I...” you whispered. You let your words melt from your internal testimony as you wafted your fingers through his hair and pulled him into your fervent embrace.
Did you ever say it? Oh no
Did you ever say it? No
Never before have words failed you so. As you both sailed lightly and amorously through that night, the vague ticking that had always shown its face in all moments of your brightest days and clearest nights was no longer probing your brain with the silhouette of an awaiting dread. It was just him.
You’ve always had him: as a best friend, partner; as the one who you could always count on, the one you could always laugh with: as family. But you’ve never had him like this. In every sense and emotion; in a state so bare, heated and loving that all time was swept into a diaphanous window- totally forgotten and unseen amidst the full and vulnerable disclosure that you two finally allowed of each other. This was today, so beautiful and abrupt, you both wreathing in each other body’s and spirit, sharing one another. Though sharing each other comes with understanding the needs and wants of one another. Did he really just need you, only wanting and attempting to find something else in going away? Or was it the other way around? These questions fade tonight, only to be left for love’s aching eyes of tomorrow.
