Okay this is technically a while-in-recovery hc but shortly after he started going to therapy, Shane found out about emotional support animals and started the process to register Charlie as his

He makes a day out of his weekly trips to Zuzu City! His sessions are fairly early in the day, so he always treats himself to food afterwards (specifically food trucks) and a trip to a video game store to check out new releases

Speaking of food trucks, he especially likes Tex-Mex and has started learning how to cook! He's still struggling, but Marnie and Jas appreciate his early attempts at huevos rancheros

Shane started to get back into playing gridball! He's not as good as he used to be, but he and Alex sometimes hang out by the park near the community center and play

If the movie theater is available, Shane and Jas have a new tradition of going to see a movie every month and having two goes each at the crane game. Shane got lucky the first theater day and won Jas 2 junimo plushies

Ok so!!! You’ve opened a can of worms!!! Here’s my islander OC that would be perfect for Lottie (assuming she won’t date Hannah/Hannah won’t come out to anyone except MC).

His name is Shane.

He’s 25, from Bangor

He’s a funeral home director at his newly inherited family business (dead parent trope alert). Jobs are always really important to my hcs, so I thought a lot about that lmao. He really enjoys the business administration aspect as well as meeting and working with so many different clients. He finds a lot of clarity in being the calm support person who knows what to do when others are grieving.

One of the chief problems I see with S2 are that the men have very little interactions with each other- sure we got the gym crew and we know some of the boys are friends with each other, but I want more of that.

Shane would fix that problem- I see him as almost a Hope for the boys, being very outspoken and generally friendly with everyone. He’s closest with Noah, Rahim and Lucas but he plays nice with Gary (they create an OG boys friend group that bonds over excluding Rocco) and he grows to like Gary and Henrik.

Shane basically acts as a spokesperson for all the guys, he always knows what’s going on and how everyone’s feeling because he has a lot of one on one conversations where people just tell him stuff. He's got those vibes of being someone you can open up to.

But when irritated he quickly becomes condescending/standoffish. He’s quick to defend those he cares about, which creates tension where he snaps (rudely) at people like Hannah and Jakub.

Like Lottie, he has a very strong sense of right and wrong and will call people out, but unlike Lottie, he’s more self-aware and sparing with those callouts. He’s always a good one to watch for reactions to conflict because while he may not voice his opinion, he’ll roll his eyes or talk about his disdain if asked 1:1.

I think he’s very very similar to Lottie, but different in the way it counts- Lottie’s insecurities are all projected outwards, while Shane’s are projected inwards. They both participate in drama, but Shane doesn’t revel in it as much as she does. He’s super judgmental of her because of those reasons- he openly accuses her of being childish in front of other islanders. She’s contemptous back because he’s a bit of a prick.

Shane’s in the villa to serve as an enemies to lovers slowburn for Lottie, where he’ll only take an interest in her once she’s grown as a character (which happens around day 19). Their relationship unfolds like:

When they meet on day 1, he says he’s a funeral home director. Lottie gets really excited and is like “oooh I love occult/macabre stuff” and he gets really offended, saying that his job is to help families in grief not play with bones. Lottie takes that super personally and bristles for the rest of the day.

When Lottie’s being boo boo the fool over Priya, Shane is openly annoyed by it and comforts Priya. Either MC or Hope suggest that he’s cracking on with Priya, and he’ll clarify that Priya is not his type and he just thinks she doesn’t deserve what Lottie’s dishing out. Lottie takes that personally (and so does Priya).

For most of the pre-CA days, he’s coupled with Marisol. It’s a weird dance between them because they’ve both admitted that the other is their type on paper, but neither of them are super attracted to the other. They stay in a weird limbo relationship, sometimes being romantic and most of the time being distant. This creates tension later in the story when people aren’t sure if they’re wanting to be in the finale with each other. 

When Gary is catching the flack that he deserves to catch for kissing MC and Lottie while being coupled with Hannah, Shane is his rock. He keeps encouraging Gary to a) man up and admit he did something wrong and b) move on from Lottie because he can do better. This culminates in a scene where Lottie storms up to him and is like ‘Gary said you’re talking shit, is that true?’ and he says ‘I’m not going to make it a secret, I think you’re acting like a brat’ and they have an all out screaming fight. Neither one apologizes and they ignore each other for a few days. 

They stay pretty distant until Chelsea and Jakub come in- Lottie pairs with Gary and Shane stays with Marisol. But when Chelsea comes in, the first person to say anything about her ‘kissing comment’ is Shane. “Surely you’re not going to come in swinging like that and expect everyone to like you.” Chelsea is stunned and tries to backtrack, and Shane doesn’t let up “We already resolved that- if you were watching you should know that. Why come in here and bring up old issues?” Lottie still lets Chelsea have it, but she’s a lot softer because she’s stunned Shane would stick up for her. She blushes and watching him from afar for the rest of the night. Poor Chels, she doesn't deserve to be the mcguffin in their little rivalry-situationship.

On the disaster recoupling, Shane chooses before Rahim. He pauses, conflicted, then picks Marisol again. But for a moment, for the first moment, he considered choosing Lottie. She’s been acting much more understanding for the last two days- apologizing to Priya and Chelsea, making nice with MC and Hope… Plus she defended MC when no one else would during RoccoGate……….

Lottie is really aggressive towards Marisol for cracking on so hard with Graham in CA and she doesn’t know why. Neither Shane or Lottie have talked to anyone about their changing feelings, so the only person who has an inkling is Hope. Marisol protests that her and Shane aren’t going anywhere and it’s none of Lottie’s business, but Lottie makes it clear that Marisol’s a disloyal snake anyways. Graham interrupts to tell Lottie she can’t talk to Marisol like that, and Lottie storms off. 

When Marisol brings Graham back, Shane is unmoved- he thought she’d do as much. Lottie comes back single as well, despite Rahim bringing Shannon. They’re both just kind of… Disappointed after that. Graham approaches Shane to say no hard feelings, and Shane just idly shakes his hand and agrees. 

Lottie couples with Gary again, but suddenly she’s not nearly as invested in him as she was. She seems really absent and doesn’t really give Gary much to work with. For his part Gary is not pulling his weight either. Shane’s also a lot more absent, maybe there’s a scene of him with Lucas/Noah talking about how he feels like he shouldn’t be here anymore. There’s a big divide between Shane and Rahim because Shane hates how Rahim handled Jo/Shannon and Rahim brushes him off as being nosy. Shane saves Shannon on the day 22 recoupling. Lotties has the “what happens if I want someone I can’t have” talk with MC that she normally has about Gary early on, but she has it on day 23 about Shane.

There’s absolutely a scene where he confesses he thinks he likes Lottie to Shannon. She encourages him to go for it, and they become really close friends through the baby challenge. 

Lottie blindsides Gary by picking Shane at the last recoupling, leaving Hannah to pick Gary. She lowkey blindsides Shane as well, but they have their first kiss then and there, in front of everyone by the firepit. They can't keep their hands off each other for the rest of the season.

Shane's prom speech is just... humiliatingly earnest. At some point he says "I just want to hold your hand for most of the time we have left in the villa. Please let me."

Instead of Hope and Noah coming in second place, Shane and Lottie do. They’re absolutely stunned, but it turns out there was a huge fanbase of people shipping them since like day 2. It started with that toxic ‘oooh they hate each other so they should have sex!!’ impulse, but then grew as the viewers started to see more and more of their wistful glances. 

We find out in the wedding Episode that Shane’s moving with Lottie to New York. He’s heartbroken to leave his family business, but he loves Lottie and is attracted to the adventure of it.

Sorry, I know no one cares. I just have a lot of maladaptive daydreams LMAO.
