“LIBERTY"

Two years before the LISA (Little Italy Street Art) project was launched Tristan Eaton first submitted a concept for this NYC wall, but told Mass Appeal the sketch was horribly misinterpreted by the church it overlooks and the project shelved. Armed with a new sketch and LISA support Eaton was ready to move ahead with this iconic New York image, painted at Mulberry and Canal Streets with the help of Shane Jessup. On a more personal level, however, he also wanted to add additional layers of meaning reflecting his perception of the American Dream. "Everyone comes here looking for the American Dream, but not everybody really makes it. You don't hear enough about those people." “ROLLINS AVENUE”

In 2013 Eaton painted the Los Angeles Arts District’s popular mural and selfie background, “I Was A Botox Junkie,” but after getting tagged in early 2016 the wall sat partially painted over until he was able to return to the site. In June, 2016 Eaton, with the help of Hauser and Shane Jessup, made it back to the Arts District to paint this tribute to his aunt, Sheila Rollins. Rollins who lived in San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury in the ’60s, marched with MLK, and protested in Berkeley was on hand in the evenings, not to protest this time but to check on the progress of this work and share her appreciation with the occasional hug. Eaton says this will be the last mural on this wall. Apparently the building has recently changed hands and the new owners eventually intend to install a large window in this space. @tristaneaton @maxhaus @shanejessup @dtlaartsdistrict @scenesfromthesidewalk
