  Hair dye, hair extensions, hair removal, permanent cosmetics, fake nails, fake lashes, fake tits, liposuction, lipoinjection, facelifts, designer clothing, designer workouts, vanity, insecurity, anticipation, disappointment, illusion, disillusion, extrospection, introspection, skeletons, demons, monsters... Outrageous looks. Outrageous acts. Outrageous justification – Done in the name of finding love, then trying to hang onto it.

  This taxidermy sculpture is part of the ongoing series of Frankensquirrels that I featured in my previous post. Its progenitor was born more than 2 decades ago. The series was inspired by the patchwork stuffed toys that my mother's best friend sewed together for me as a child from her fabric scraps. I began making these sculptures as a way to recycle severely damaged roadkill that had limited salvageable parts. I have worked exclusively with humanely sourced animal remains for over a quarter century and was a pioneer in the realm of no-kill taxidermy practices. My art and philosophy were the foundation for the sculptural genre known as rogue taxidermy, an art movement spearheaded by myself and two colleagues in 2004. Our group’s no-waste-no-kill platform was the catalyst for the ethical taxidermy trend that is currently occurring in the United States.
