As someone who's into shipping non!Disney characters, even if they seem an odd pairing at first, crossover or otherwise, what do you think of Mulan and Shan Yu, one of my guilty pleasure pairings? I like it because hero/villain, their stark differences in appearance, the canon "Soldier from the Mountains" scene (makes me think he would be all about her in an au; "he falls first and harder" reading trope) and a few videos of them I enjoy
I've actually been coming across more and more Mulan x Shan Yu videos on TikTok recently and they DEFINITELY have my attention!
I love the aspect of Shan Yu being the only man who immediately respects Mulan as a soldier because the Huns didn't have that same sexism and misogyny China did (at least, that's what I've heard) and the idea that the enemy would be the one to respect her...
The angst... the enemies to lovers... IT IS GLORIOUS!
