Tabitha and the Shaolin journey, this is a small community project of mine over some time to capture experiences and channel my creativity.
I was first introduced by a good friend of mine back in 2020. I didn’t know what to expect, my only experience with Martial Arts was watching a few movies starring famous martial artists and celebrities, some to name include: Bruce Lee, Donni Yen and Jackie Chan. I had this assumption that Martial Arts revolves around physical combat and bashing up the baddies.
Just like when I go travelling to a foreign place for the first time, I came to class with an open mind and not expecting anything. I was shown a few moves but more importantly my Sifu - “to keep the base, fundamentals as well as the body and mind strong”. At the time, I had a decent background in following gymnasium programs as well as competing in sports and charitable running events. I also thought to myself - “OK, how? How much training is there?
It was OK not to have all the answers.
On one side of the wall, there is a large painting of a flying albatross featuring the word “possibilities”. Yes, possibilities does become more and more interesting with every lesson.
It’s an art, it’s the journey.
Over the years, I learnt some of the following:
- Developing and learning about the human body.
- The mind and mental health.
- A deeper connection and appreciation of mother nature.
- Intangible aspects and simplifying life for not just yourself but others as well.
Have an awesome weekend readers.
