Day 436
A game I had completed about a week ago but hadn’t written about was The Shape of Things, which was a puzzle game. It was a good puzzle game, the puzzles were interesting, though it was mundane to the point where it took me a while to finish because I couldn’t just play through all the sets back to back.
I couldn’t help but think how The Shape of Things, by design, would be really good for a touch screen, like a phone. There are… actually a number of small puzzle games that would suit mobile very well. However, due to the constant support an app needs every time a phone updates its operating system and the bad app store layouts (looking at you Apple), it’s at times not worth a developer’s energy or money to port to mobile.
It’s kind of sad really, because when smartphones first came out, everyone thought they would disrupt the gaming market because the barrier to owning a phone is much lower than owning a computer or a game console. The problem is, most apps are small mindless things at best and predatory at worst when it comes to games.
Still, it would have made a good mobile game, but it is a good game.
