Tomorrow (Tuesday the 20th)... . #Repost @bandofvices ・・・ How to Build a Successful Art Career and Develop a Collector Base. This Tuesday, 20 April 2021 - 10am, PDT via EventBrite. . Andy Warhol famously said, “Making money is art.” But what about making money from art? The myth of the starving artist is a romantic cliché, and not a very helpful one. In this Tuesday session we’ve assembled a guest panel which includes gallerists (Band of Vices and Ed Cross), an artist organisation (ArtCan) and a collector (Merrill Watson). . They will be in conversation with Kate Enters, ArtCan founder and director, to share their experiences on the most effective and successful strategies for connecting with art buyers to enable artists to make a living from their practice. The discussion will also explore how these strategies can be applied to creating a collector base for contemporary Black art; the importance of connection in developing a successful art career; and whether talent is more important than hard work? Controversially, it will dive deep into the idea that Black artists and gallerists need their own art ecosystem, outside of the mainstream art market, that draws in investors to an asset class that offers cultural as well as financial appreciation. .
