I’ve made Star Wars posts on here before but something has been gnawing at me like a Rancor for the past little while. So you guys know the new book Bob Iger put out about his big success at Disney. I’m sure we all know the story by now and what he said about Star Wars and in a way it’s not really any new information, it just kind of confirms what was more or less suspected.
Knowing that before didn’t really bother me because I thought “Well TFA was good, the prequels were going downhill, and George wanted to focus on Midichlorians which doesn’t sound very interesting.” I’m always back and forth with the prequels but I respect them a lot right now, like they are a fine set, even Attack of the Clones because it still had content. I mean look at the battle of Geonosian, Dooku vs Yoda, Anakin losing a limb, Jango Fett, the fake Princess, the fake bounty hunter, the introduction of the clones. There’s a lot you can still account for even for it being the weakest in the franchise. I wasn’t very big on Solo, and the Last Jedi is debatable and yeah there is still reason to believe that 9 can be good but I can’t help but think of how...maybe we didn’t understand it.
Bob holds it like a golden victory while George is kind of just on call for complications and such when it was his franchise. I mean I don’t mean to sound ignorant when I say it sounds manipulative for Bob to have said “You’re getting old George, Star Wars is going to need to be passed on.” and this that and the other thing, I mean I’m sure it’s just business but it IS JUST THAT, business. Look at anything like that and you don’t care what you say as long as it’s good for business, I want to know about these missing scripts so my heart can be at rest knowing we got this outcome still looking good. He bought them while knowing he wasn’t going to use them...again from a business standpoint it’s probably so George doesn’t say “what could have been” but he was hurt about it. I think Disney should release the scripts, what are they going to do with them anyway? Bury them in a vault? It was George’s baby and he sold it and with it not being handled the same, he stopped filmmaking, he actually came out on a public post and announced his departure saying that it was just too much to bare which I’m sure is right with all the hate surrounding the prequels and such (I’ll get to that in a moment) you kind of can’t blame him but also can’t help but feel sorry for him.
Ok so I mentioned the prequels and all that, George was progressive, some say experimental, I say poetic. I saw a post with I believe Freddie Prinze Jr who is well immersed in Star Wars almost as a 3rd gen with him working under Dave Filoni who worked right under George himself. He talked about how it’s about the balance between the light and dark side, it evens itself out and kind of takes hosts. So Palpatine rose and gave us Anakin to counter that. Palp won (dark side) then the OG 4-6 comes in and Anakin takes the W (light side). I might even strength to say each movie. Like Phantom Menace they found out just how much was out there that they don’t even know about hence the name “Phantom Menace” then Attack of the Clones had the light side win because they got the clones and overall won the battle of Geonosis. Revenge of the Sith...need I say more than the title? New Hope, they blow up the Death Star. Empire, infamously known for the bad guys winning and that’s the way people liked it and remembered it for. RotJ, light once again prevails and balance was brought to the galaxy, both powerful forces of Palpatine and Anakin were struck down making room for others to take their place.
So it would make sense for RoS to have the dark side win...maybe...this is Disney we’re talking about and I wouldn’t be surprised if they scrapped that whole thing all together. He even mentions Darth Maul and what a crappy hand he was dealt because he was more or less destined to be like that. Maybe it’s our fault for not understanding, not so much “It needs to be this way because that’s how I want it. I want Maul to be the big bad guy.” Sure but I think he still has a point, he had a solid intention and in a way we won’t know what was fully in store without seeing it through.
The question about balance is....why are there rankings? Like Jedi master or even training if the force just takes its host? Is it just understanding it and learning it? I feel like we might never know now. That’s where Midichlorians might have been a cool idea. Look at the villains he produced in the prequels! Like you can’t tell me that none of those were good and how some parts really fleshed out the franchise and made it what it is or rather how we think it is.
PLEASE RELEASE THE SCRIPTS AFTER RISE OF SKYWALKER COMES OUT!! After it comes out there will be no reason to hide it, it will be over, everyone would have saw it.
