Growing up, the phrase "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" was a familiar refrain in my house. The Kellogg Company, a leading provider of breakfast foods, is running a campaign that offers parents a way to reinforce this message at home, help those who don't have the resources to have a healthy breakfast and get their kids involved in a fun and engaging way.
This morning my boys each photographed their breakfasts and uploaded the pictures to the Web site shareyourbreakfast.com. As a result, two kids who might have otherwise gone without, will receive breakfast courtesy of Kellogg's.
The project is part of a national advertising campaign for Kellogg called Share Your Breakfast, that launched earlier this week in conjunction with National Breakfast Day. National Breakfast Day was established by the School Nutrition Association to raise awareness about the links between breakfast and academic achievement.
The company is working with the national nonprofit volunteer organization Action for Healthy Kids with the goal of donating a million breakfasts to underserved children for the 2011-12 school year. Schools where at least 50 percent of the students are eligible for free and reduced- price meals will receive the breakfasts.
The promotion runs through July. Please follow Sam and Jacob's lead and share your breakfast.
