Random question, when you put the links to your fics on here it lists all the categories and tags and stuff? And the has a little ‘source: archiveofourown’ at the bottom?

How might one go about doing that? Do you do it manually?

Oh!! Good question!

Ok so first, click on the work you want to share. At the top of the page, before the title and stuff, there's a row of buttons on the right-hand side. You want the one that says 'Share'.

Then, one you click on 'Share', it will prompt you to share on either Twitter or Tumblr. I don't have Twitter, but I can't imagine the process changes at all.

So I'm going to click on 'Tumblr'

After, it'll open a new tab with an auto-generated Tumblr post. From there, you can assign which blog you want to post to. It auto-fills all the details from AO3 directly, but you can edit them and you can add more to the post.

You have to add your own tags, of course. Sometimes the autofill while typing and sometimes they don't. You can also tag specific blogs which is really handy.

Then just click 'Post'! Or you can use the drop down to see other posting options.

Hopefully this helps!! It's a really handy tool.

The only thing I run into is that if you want to a share a new chapter, this function shares the whole work. So for chapter specific, you have to go about it the long way with embedding a link.

Hello! I’m not exactly sure. I’m kinda bad about sharing my work because I’ve been stolen from, but HERE’S a short list of some good ones, plus some alternative ideas you may not have thought of.

In addition to that, I’d like to take this opportunity to ask people something.

One of the mods of the Discord server and I have been chatting about a forum style thing so that people can share their work within the community.

Any advice on sharing work with others? They're my peers some of them are friends but others I'm not particularly fond of. I've been ask to write short film. I've never written one before and usually I have more time to edit and look over my work.

I guess my advice would be to take the dive. Sharing your work can be scary but it really helps to get other people’s advice. Although if you don’t really trust or you don’t feel comfortable sharing it with some people you should start with those you do trust if that’s possible. Tell these people that you want honest opinions and the best critique they can you because hearing “It’s great” isn’t that helpful when you need help. If you’re worried about sharing it with the people you’re not fond of, just remember to take criticism with an open mind and a grain of salt. It’s important to get feedback but you don’t have to listen to the kind that is just nasty for the purpose of being nasty and isn’t really helpful at all. It can be hard to let that stuff slide—everyone has to deal with it sometimes—but just be confident in your abilities and try to get the most out of the experience as possible. It might be unpleasant but hopefully you’ll grow as a writer in then end :)

Let The Right One Read

You've met this person. They are your 'friend crush,' or your real crush (this is a bad idea sometimes, but we've done it), or just someone whose prose impresses you or whose analytic insight floors you. 

Let this person read your work. Don't preface too heavily (I don't advocate prefacing your work at all; let the person figure out what they think about it without your help). Just ask them, in the tone you would use for a huge favor but from someone who you trust to be there for you, if they would read part of your work and tell you what it made them think about.

If you write long works, works so long that it feels cruel to ask even the most kind and diligent person to read them and comment, make friends with other people who write long works. They need readers too; create a barter system where you swap your readerly wisdom for theirs.

Just don't make the mistake of throwing your writing out on the internet and expecting people to be either kind or helpful. It can happen and I applaud you if it has happened to you. But try to be picky - find the one from the internet who really cared enough to give advice that was actionable and kind. One reader is a good start; it makes it possible to share with many readers with confidence.
