Tumblr: 6 and half hours to setup one blog
It took me 6 and half hours to setup one blog and I will go through the steps why.
1. I wanted the background of this blog to have some opacity and I came to find out that it isn't possible. (Detailed search in Stackflow)
Issue: The background image become opaque and show does the text. I was stuck on this concept for five hours until I read something about being able to set opacity with photoshop.
2. My photoshop isn't working under my main user name, it keeps crashing so I had to go to another user on my mac and use photoshop under that name. I still have to work on why Photoshop isn't being pulled up on my main user name in my mac and that was another long day process a week or two ago.
3. So I switch users and I had to figure out the sharing concept between the two folders.
Tip: How to share between two users?
Answer: Right click on the folder that you want to share and go to "Get Info" afterwards go down to "Sharing & Permissions". You will see a '+' button. Add the user you want and don't forget to set the Privilege to "Read & Write". You will have to set all the folders in that folder to 'Read&Write' or else you will have access to some parts and not the others.
I did this sharing concept after using Dropbox to share between the two users because I was focused on trying to get the image to have an opaque quality. I only wanted to deal with one thing at a time.
4. So I did a search about Photoshop and opacity of image and learned you have to duplicate your image because you will not be able to set the opacity on the original picture. After you have the layered image which is just a duplicate of the original you have an opacity button above and to the right of the layer panel. After you set the opacity you have to go to "File" and then go to the "Save as.." option. You should pick PNG 24 (I don't know why yet but another post told me to do that). Afterwards you go to the bottom left and click "Save" and pick where you want to save it. I saved it in my Dropbox because it was the easiest way for me to see it under the other user.
4. I had the image in my opaque image in my dropbox and the next thing was to get it online in an image folder. I decided to use my own domain natashamgreen.com to save images. I have a feeling I will be in this tech world for a while. So I had to delete the Wordpress I set up for that domain name and wait for it to clear with GoDaddy. I then added an "Index.html" file and an images folder with the image inside.
5. The FTP manger in GoDaddy was giving me an issue. It did not wanting to show my image code view they had or even in the browser. I knew I had the name right and the image in correct folder. I had to do some troubleshooting it the answer to problem was to clear the cache for Chrome.
I called GoDaddy twice about this issue and it turned out to be on my end for it not showing up in the chrome browser. On the other hand, it did not show up in GoDaddy's code editor and I did not even worry about that at that point. It was showing in the different web browsers and GoDaddy's code editor will just have to lose out.
6. The second time I called GoDaddy I asked is there an easy way than using the FTP manager on GoDaddy? He told me I could use Filezilla.
7. So I did have previous knowledge of FIlezilla but it is true, what you don't use, you lose. So I downloaded Filezilla again and had to get it set up with my ip address and my user name.
<b>Note to other newbies:</b> Get you IP address from your webhosting company. You can do an easy search in your hosting site to find out how to set up an FTP.
8. I finally was able to get the index.html file working and the image link was not working, it took me two hours to figure out problem. I named the file "Purple_Dreams.png". Chrome was not picking up the underscore that I put in the name. So I had to rename it "PurpleDreams.png". THIS GOT ME SO UPSET, I SPENT HALF MY DAY TRYING TO FIGURE THIS STUFF OUT! I was really on the verge of crying around the fifth hour. Everything was a process.
9. So I finally have my domain setup in a way to receive files from Filezilla. I was able to get the image to look opaque on Tumblr and then I had to go through the process of using Photoshop again because I set the opacity to 50%. That was still to much so I had to set it to 20%. I also had to set the background-width to 100% because I want it to stretch the distance of the device.
Sigh...so much to learn.
