Last week, I got a chance to speak at a few Cantonese radio shows and semi-regretted quitting Chinese school at an early age (although I stay by my stance that it was boring as heeeeeellllllll). But luckily, I have patient cousins and aunties and uncles who are teaching me how to say some new phrases in Chinese about our work and food security. This is my favourite part of the job! Learning a new framework. Some ones I thought I might share:
How to say and talk about food security in Chinese:
Food Security: 食品安全 = “food product security” Canto: sikbun awnchoon Mand: shipin anquan
CSA (Community Shared Agriculture): 市民農莊 = “citizen farm” Canto: seemun nongzhong Mand: shimin nongzhuang
A fun Chinese proverb about food: 民以食為天 Lit = "the people regard food as high as the heavens" En equivalent = "bread is the stuff of life"
Will add to list as more come!
Check out the coverage we got from our launch on CBC and Fairchild radio.
